Got a bunch done today, despite the little setbacks!

Motor is in & the pipe is fitted, just need to fit the silencer. had to remount the front fender as it hit the trick torque pipe. carburetor mounted & the new throttle cable didn't work, so I put the old one on to fit up the controls.

Set the timing & tested the 29 year old Motoplat ( known for being unreliable when they were new ) to see if I had a good ground & what kind of spark I would get..It was a big fat blue spark! Kill button was installed & works like it should.

Still need to do a few things like get the tank Graphic's, put the chain on when I get the bottom roller support. mount the mud guard to air box & double check the compression release cable that gave me fits today.

Greg, who I'm building the 490 for came over to day & we are looking into better shocks for it.

But here's a pic of what she will look like when shes done. I'm close but waiting on a few little things & then it's time to fire the MAD Beast! It's going to be a real Fire breathing dragon!

Looking forward to seeing it H.

I got a friend's "new" 77 CR390 Husky going for him today. Clutch is slipping, it's running rich (sucking tranny oil!) and geared too low. But it's a rocketship compared to a Super Rat. It might even do a Husky Hop for ya if you want to try it out......

I took these on Easter when the Family was together
My Brother in Law built both these over the winter.
I like the twin shock better but the 83 motor looks so cool
Will the 83 engine fit a 81 frame?

You are building every vintage riders dream with your 490

Nice 83' I have one that I'm going to start building next week, I should have the 81' done by the end of the week.

I just have to modify the pipe to fit a little better on this one, as it rubs the air box, the one I put on my 81' fit perfect & they are the same design ?

Still waiting for the tank Graphic's to show up.

Well I took a good look at the pipe on Greg's bike & than looked at mine & couldn't see any difference, so I mounted my silencer & found out that was the problem with the pipe hitting the airbox.

I put in a little gas & kicked it over on the first kick! sounded good, but the throttle stuck wide open on me & the kill button didn't work! So I pulled the float bowl off the carb dumping the gas & it shut down.

Worked on the kill button for about an hour & a half, couldn't get it to work consistently so I just replace it with a different one & fired the motor up again. it's better but I'm going to double check the carb & throttle cable in the morning, just to make sure!

But it sure sounded healthy, can't wait to test her out on the track!

Aw Woody this motor is just a big torque monster It's not hard to ride at all, you just put in 3rd & gas it all the way around the track!

I can give you a indication of how strong this bike will be, my 490 had a knocking rod & has a bunch of races on the motor. last race on the start when I got off the gate I hit 3rd & the front end floated about a foot & half all the way to the first turn with my LARGE backside on it!

Imagine what a fresh motor & some Maico tuning secrets done to it will be like

Yeah, dumping the clutch probably wouldn't have worked

Do to having a major problem with my race bike I didn't get a chance to check out the project 490.

I made myself get up early & go through the carb & found a crack in the slide & a bad float needle. I got different throttle cable from one of the dealers & it's wrong too!

So I had to go back to the old stock one for now, I got into my spare carb parts & found a slide that is one step richer & a brand new Vittron tipped float needle.

I might get around to trying to fire her up again, I have a crank to put in my race bike for Sunday & if I get done in time, I'll let rip for a few minutes.still need to fit a silencer before I start her up.

We should have the tank Graphics soon!

Well I've got some good news!

The parts that I changed i the carb fixed the problem with the motor going WFO!

I also got a set of tank decals & chain guide rollers, now all I need is to get Greg's silencer fit up & then find a new correct throttle cable & the trick front brake cable guide delivered & installed.

But a few more heat cycles & a good going over. she should be ready to ride!

It's almost time to roost the guy's on the 450's

Well I finally got her 99% done, I would have had her done sooner if I hadn't pulled some muscles in my back & I would haven't gotten the parts when I ordered them!

The only things that need to be done now are to have the silencer(sp) mount re-welded & put on the trick brake guide when it shows up. have to use the stock one for now.

Shes ready to ride & be setup, you all the normal things like adjusting the bars, levers & the brakes to the riders likings. also going over all the nuts & bolts, checking the jetting & all the other little things.

I would like to thank all the people that helped me in this build.
