One of my first bikes was a mid-70's DT-175. It had a larger rear sprocket for off-road riding, but it was without doubt fully capable of running on the street. The entire DT line was designed with dual-purpose in mind, but it ultimately proved a bit heavy in the dirt, and was good on-road if you were not going to be driving for hours on end.

I own two DT's one is a 1973 DT 250 the other is a 1976 Dt 175. To keep them street legal keep the headlight, brake light, and if youwant the turn signals. That is if you want to not use hand signals. I do not believe that you have to have a mirror, I do not because I ride trail and road. Other than that you can do baisically anything else. You can change sprockets, suspension, clutche, brakes, cam, crank shaft, pistion ,spark plug, tires, rims, frame, oil injector or not.
