Default Hacked

Good Grief this has just not been my year...

I went to California on Wednesday and apparently we got hacked on that same day or sometime around then. I was busy enough that I didn't check ATM at all while I was away, so I was none the wiser that it was down.

I think I have the hack cleaned up, but I won't know for sure until I can look at all the files to make sure the compromised files are fixed (which I am doing now). I have however fixed the reason we go hacked, so that won't happen again.

The good news is the hack was pretty benign, besides the fact that it turned the boards off for the entire duration of my trip to CA. I'm sorry about that. Had I known I would have fixed it earlier.

Oh and all user titles were removed since they were all hacked. So if you had a custom user title, you'll need to re-add it. Otherwise that should be all.

Don't be surprised if I turn the boards off again to do some other upgrades/fixes.

I will however update the offline message so you know it's real. I will always give you current dates and times.

Again, sorry for the down time.

Woody

Oh and one other tid bit... And I'm really sorry about this. If you are having trouble logging in, you will need to delete your allthingsmoto.com cookie from your browser. I know that part sucks, but it's a side affect of this wonderful gift known as being hacked.

I agree, I'm not sure what the point to hacking is... but it's a pain in the butt.

Thanks for the offer Scott, the organization that hacked us, hacked about 500 other vbulletin sites on the net. Actions are already being taken.

There is a point to ethical hacking...it's called penetration testing and there is good money in it using tools like nessus and others to plot issues and then advising the owners of the systems, but to deface or otherwise cause damage is just stupid.

Blackhat / Whitehat talk a lot about the responsibilities of ethical hacking but then again I didn't know hacking in general by it's true nature was ethical?

Thanks
Scott

Very much so, and I agree with you Woody as an IT professional I can't stand people who use their time to do damage.

Thanks
