Default Works bikes????

Ok, I know you all are going to think I'm stupid, but for my own education humor me for a minute.......What is the definition of a "Works Bike"????

What is the difference in a Works Bike and what they race at the Supercross & Motocross events now???

I know I should know this, but I'm really not sure.

Thanks all!!!!

i Think works bikes use some special parts that are one of a kind or aren't open for the public

i think a "works" bike would be a bike like the top moto/supercross riders have. and yes they have parts that the general public can't get.

There are no more true "works" bikes because of the AMA's production rule. Before the production rule, the factories would build the bikes from the ground up, frames, suspension, motors, etc...nothing available to the public, period. Now because of the production rule, "Factory" bikes have to be based on the production bikes, their limited into what they can build.

True, but they still have parts that we can't get. Maybe a one off clutch basket, or in recent years, (when ferry ran the 426) he had a 3 speed tranny. Their are a lot of "Works" parts still out there.

I agree though, the production rule has changed a lot of stuff, but their's still a lot they have that's not available to us.

KYB works suspension isn't something you can go buy either. Showa's are available for $5000..

anyway, That's the definition of a works bike. a bike built with parts that are made for the Pro rider and no one else.

its like if you have heard people say for example on a hamburger, they ask do you want the works? which means everything on you burger. well a works bike changes every single piece possible into something aftermarket. better than stock.

That's what I thought. I wonder just what they can change and what they can't.
I've been wondering every since I heard (or read) in an interview with McGrath, someone ask him if he ever rode a "works" bike. He said no, what would be the use.

Thanks for confirming!!!

Works bikes are just bikes that have some custom made stuff not for sale to the public because it is so good only the pros can get it. Mostly engine parts and suspension.

thats a good explanation but it aint right. if that is the definition then anyone could order the parts and build one.

Ride_Red_15 hit it on the head, there are no more "true" works bikes but the factory bikes are still miles ahead of the stockers.
