Sweet, the more info the better. I'm going to be lacing up 5 wheels within the next 2 weeks. Got them powder coated along with the hubs. When first starting the project I knew there was info on the net, but was worried it was going to be a lot of work. after reading several things on the net, I dont think it's going to be as hard as I was thinking it was going to be.

I plan on it, I started a thread in the yamaha 2 smoke section, but haven't made any progress since yet since getting the stuff back from powder coating.

I have an extra rim I wanted to practice on first before I started tearing into my stock wheels. The one I noticed when doing it, is some of the spokes almost seizing up and twisting the spokes when I was tightning them. I would suggest cleaning the threads good or replacing them if you can. Most wheel shops cut the spokes of rather then reuse them. And make sure you lace it right. The first time I did it the other day I laced it wrong, barely but just enough. When all the nipples were tightened all and the wheel was still loose I new there was a problem . 3 1/2 hours later it was done right.

It's a good idea to use either anti-sieze or waterproof grease on the spoke threads.

I cut my spokes out with bolt cutters, so no practicing for me, all or nothing

I havent decided how I want to do it yet. I don't have a stand, but could fab one up really fast. But doing it on the bike would also be really easy to do.

Thanks for posting this. I'm going to put a set of Buchanan's on my stock rear rim and hub this weekend. This will help a lot.

Now if only there was an article about drilling out the hub....

I had to order a set of their spokes for my rear wheel since I could not find any other aftermarket spokes for my XR400. I had to drill out the rim for the nipples to fit. I was really nervous at first, but after the first one it was cake.

Oh and for got to post pics of my wheels, had them powder coated and made my own truing stand out of $15 of steel, worked like a charm.

My XR wheels:

Yeah if you're going to ride off road learning how to build a wheel is a good idea. It's confusing at first but after some practice it all becomes clear.Been building wheels since I raced bicycles in the.......well the old days.

BTW nice wheels.
