Most of yall ask me what a harescramble is, so here is some info about them A harescramble is a race that is 2 hours long that you ride your bike as hard as you can. Dead engine start. Tracks are normally from 7 to 10 miles. Creek crossings, single tight track, motocross, mudd, rain, dust, rocks, sand and just about any other type of terrain.......you name it, its gonna be in a harescramble. To sum it up, its a 2 hour race of the most narliest stuff that you will ever ride on that challenges you and your equipment to its full extent BUT I SURE DO LLLOOOOVVVVEEEE IIIITTTTTT Last edited by Riley_400; 03-06-2004 at 10:28 PM.

i only race an hour bc i'm in the mini class though, yz145 is in the full size bike, so it's 3. We also have an 8 hour near the end. Basicaly the way i sum it up, short and sweet, is it's a track that is part mx ans part woods, and you run for an amount of time instead of laps, dead engine start, and the tracks are normaly about 5 miles long, give or take a few miles.

In the [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] the B and C classes race 1 1/2 hours. A classes and PROs run 2 hours. There tough...people think there gonna be easy...whew..there not. Even though I am trail rider and know how tough trail riding can be for some reason I put "its gonna be easy" in my head.....man did I get fooled. Most of the tracks in the NCHSA are like 4 1/2 miles to around 10(I think 10)miles long and alot of them have some MX thrown in

| So, if you don't count laps but rather time, how is it determined who wins? Is it scored like trials with a points system--the guys who hit the fewest trees in two hours win the day? Also, I am not so sure I am fond of the way the event start. It sounds like under those circumstances, the type of bike you have would always determine whether you get a good start (i.e., electric start or two-stroke). Why not just start it like a moto with the first one who gets into the woods alive is declared as having achieved "holeshot?" (just kidding!) I am actually thinking about doing some harescrambles this year, but I am a little concerned about letting me and the CRF450 loose in the woods until I get some of its explosive acceleration under better control. I heard a stealthy flywheel is a good mod. that allows you to flip it up into a higher gear without stalling and keep it out of the danger zone. Will see . . . . | Just some more information for you guys. The races are either 2 or 3 hrs depending on if your racing a national event or local. Your start off in rows according to your class. Alist of classes: AA A A-senior B B LIGHT B senior Masters(47 and up) C Clight Cvet Junior long Trail riders. The race is scored by the number of laps you can make in the alloted time. You have two check points you go through and the scorers record your # and time. The guy with the most laps and less time wins his or her class. Most events start the classes off 1 minute apart. |

Professor Cox,I think the main reason for Dead Engine Starts is to keep it fair......if everyones engine is dead until the green flag drops then no one can jump the line and get ahead. I don't worry about my CR not starting(it always starts 1st kick when hot)but like you said...depends on the bike...if I had my XR on the line I would be worried that it might not start 1st kick and on a 4-stroke like my XR..if you fire it up and immediatly give it throttle it will die(vacum lag Its still tricky to get it down to where you get off the line fast. I have only did one race...My class had 23 riders and I was about 9th or so to the first turn I think. But a guy I know that races AA..one race that threw the green flag and he went to kick down on the kickstarter and his boot slipped off...he had to pull the kickstarter back out because it flipped back up and in...the whole class was already GONE.

I thought a harescramble was some sort of rabbit omlette. I just figured you guys in Arkansas ate some weird stuff at the track. We eat squirrels before a moto up here in New England, lots of energy in those little guys.

Thanks guys, now it makes sense. It even sounds like fun. My Honda always seems to start real good, but there is nothing like a two-stroke or one of those electric starts under conditions like that. Just blast the button and go! Harescrambles actually sounds like sort of a hybrid between enduro and motorcross. Do you guys find it crowded when it comes time to try to pass people to make better lap times?

it is DCox, and for the winner, it's how many laps you can get in in the given amount of time. What i meant is you see who can get the most laps in in 3 hours. Not so who gets 10 laps first.

I had no idea that any harescramble was 3 hours long. Even our AA riders only go for 2 hours........

I think harescramble structure will vary from region to region. Here at our local club, it's about a 3 mile loop tops. Gets cleaned out pretty quick and turns into an mx through the trees for 2 hours.
