Problem is, the world is filling up with greenies and those that hate riding... So I've got to do my part.

I'll take the slap, I've got it coming. I know I've strayed... but I'll still have blue thunder so It's not like I've lost my mind completely.

I had a 94 Chevy Suburban 1/2 ton and put over 200kmiles on her in 8 years, the only problem is maintenance, they are heavy vehicles and go thru tires, brakes and batteries more frequent than other vehicles. I put a new A/C in it at 130Kmiles and new tranny at 140Kmiles.

In 2000, the wife looked at Excursions and Suburbans, she chose the suburban again. It fits in the garage better, chevy fixed the turning radius in 2000 so she could get it in and out of parking spots easier. The only difference is we got the 3/4 ton, so the maintenance should be significantly less, she has 65K miles on it and the brakes look great, the 1/2 ton went thru them every 40K miles. The 3/4 ton has a 342 rear end and gets about 16-18 mpg on the highway pulling a trailer (to Florida). My older 94 got 16mpg, with flowmaster and K&N, downhill, with the wind at my back, got the picture! The new one goes thru batteries though, already on our third in almost four years. No leaks, service the tranny on a regular basis! I like both trucks but the Excursion is just to big for getting in and out in suburban areas for the wife.

Now if you want to talk trucks, 03' Dodge 2500 4x4 Cummins Quad cab!

Thanks valverde, good info.

Now don't go ruining my suburban thread with that dodge junk...

I wonder if the brake stuff you are talking about has more to do with the fact that in 2000, they upgraded the brakes (I believe they went 4 wheel disk), the suspension, and the engines (4.7 and 5.3)

What motor does your 3/4 ton have?

Sorry but I have a very hard time with that. I've owned 3 gas 'burbs and none of them got 16-18 on the hiway without a trailer, let alone with one. Especially my 3/4 ton although you probably didn't have the 454 like I did. I had 350's in the other two.

Is it a very small trailer and do you drive slow on the highway? That'd be phenomal mileage from any full sized truck pulling a trailer of any size at all, IMO.

My father in law said he got 17 mpg on the freeway with his 2000 1/2 ton chevy truck empty and the 5.3, as soon as he puts a load on it, he drops to about 13 and has gotten as bad as 11 and that's pulling a tent trailer. Most people I've talked to tend to get around 13 - 15 in their suburbans.
