Default Way OT: Please, please, please do not drink and drive

On a very sad note; the wife of one of my coworkers was killed last night by a drunk driver. The accident was not a result of any wrongdoing on her part. She was simply in the wrong place at the wrong time...and it cost her her life.

She was 39 years old and leaves behind two children, a 14 year old son and a 12 year old daughter as well as her husband and family. A truly sad day.

The @$$&*!* DUI driver was almost 3 times the legal limit for blood alcohol content and after the accident tried to run from the scene. If it weren't for some "concerned citizens" he would have escaped into the night. A HUGE thank you to them.

Please, please, please do not drink alcoholic beverages if you plan to drive.

Drunk drivers are just plain old ****in ***holes (fill in the blanks....). Why can vechicles just detect the the driver is drunk and have a spring loaded punching glove pop out of the steering wheel and hit them in the face ?

Sorry for the language...i dont know any other way to describe those morons.

I agree with magnet except for the part about the punching glove, and stuff like that, that ***hole, should be in jail for ever, he simply could have stumbled over to someone and asked them for a ride home, what a scum bag

I AM DEEPLY SADDENED BY YOUR LOSS. I WISH THERE WAS SOMETHING I COULD DO. OUR PRAYERS ARE WITH YOU

Please don't get me wrong as I appreciate all the well wishes but they are not for me. They are for my friend and his family. If you are so inclined to say a prayer, please say it for my bud Roger, Roger Jr and Melissa.

Thank you all.

I'm sorry to hear this They'll be in my thoughts and prayers for sure.

ON another note: I just don't get it. People who get behind the wheel drunk need stiffer punishments. IMOP, when you get behind the wheel drunk, the vehicle is no longer a vehicle, it's a killing machine. I feel it should be the same as if he took a gun and killed someone. I just don't get it.

The worst part is this may not be our families, but it could be. We have no control over that type of situation. Ahh... this news deeply sadens me

My deepest sympothies go out to her children, husband and family. He'll probably get charged with manslaughter but that isn't enough!! I hate drunk drivers and it is never them that get hurt just innocient people that happened to be at the wrong place wrong time. Makes me feel sick.

Ernie,

Give your co-worker and his family our blessings.

I don't get it either. What aggervates me even more is that these people can hire a lawyer and go to driving school and get it removed from their record, just so they can go out and do it again. I've heard and read many horror stories about this every day in our KC Paper and I just don' t think its right.

Not to be meanful, but I hope they hang the guy or really make him regret what he did to this family.

She was at the right place at the wrong time. The wang who was drunk was at the wrong place. He shoulda been at home or somewhere else, but not on the road...

Sorry for the rant...But tell them that people all over, including myself, are wishing the best for the family..

This is more common than any of us care to think. I can't even begin to know the pain that family is feeling when someone is wrongfully taken from you.

I feel compelled to share something with my ATM family. I gave up drinking and "back in the day" I did not think I could go out and have fun without alcohol being a part of it. MAN I WAS WRONG! I don't miss it a bit. Don't get me wrong I have some wild stories to tell but if it was the alcohol that made things fun then that is really SAD.

My decision to stop was because I unfortuantely could not have a "few" drinks. You either drink like a fish or what's the use right? Call it a problem or whatever but I was one of those 'hey it doesn't affect my job and I don't beat my wife so what's the problem" kind of drinkers. I swore it off completely after probably 20 years of drinking....and I did it BEFORE or without getting in trouble. I for one have never seen the inside of a jail (and don't want to) . But even more importantly I have a family that adores me and I have alot to live for.

I am trying not to preach because I know that drives people in the other direction. I can tell you though that if it has every crossed your mind that you should give it up and stop then just do it. I promise you won't regret it or be sorry. I still go the same places and have the same friends. It is now not a part of my life and the funny part is I feel better and am in better shape than I was 10 years ago!!! My wife appreciates that!!!!
