Default Tire choice for GMB

Ok all of you Texas (and others who have been there) folks...I'm going to have to trust you on this one. I asked someone a while back but as I grow older my memory is as short as ever.

What is the proper tire choice for the GMB track...intermediate??...soft??...hard??

Ernie:

Vintage Dave & I used to run ether a Dunlop 756 or a Michelin S12 both which are soft tires. but I've switched to Dunlop 952.

Splendora's dirt is mostly sand & clay mix which will get packed downed, so I would say a intermediate would work well.

Ernie...since I have been there and observed as a spectator, I would strongly suggest the black tires with the little knobby thingys on them. They appear to work best.

Intermidate tires hook up like crazy at splendora. In the past I ran M-12's and had a hard time keeping the front end on the ground coming up to the step up.

This year I have switched to a starcross wich so far I love...it's comin with me.

Ernie,
I agree with Howard on the 756 Dunlops. I used them at the planning meeting ride. Previously I used the 739G /FAJ that came stock. The 756 worked everywhere for me.

Oh fine...ya'll gotta be serious don't ya?

I'm running Pirelli mt-32's and I think they're a pretty good tire for Splendora. If the track gets any blue groove to it, they can be a little slickery, but I think they're a good all-around tire.

And that's a newb's opinion.

Int to hard...at least last year it was.

Dunlop 952 is what I will be running. A 756 would be good, but it will be history by the end of the weekend.

The best tire for the start straight is a Dunlop 773. The first 100 yards is nothing but sugar sand.

The best morning tire is either a 773 or 756. By the afternoon, the track starts to dry out and a 756 or 952 will work the best.

I have also used Michelin S12's and they rock at Splendora.

I am currently running a 756 on my CRF and a Pirelli MT32 on my CR250.

Since I can't get the original Metzler Multi-Cross tires anymore (best front tire ever made), I am stuck running 756 fronts everywhere.

I would expect the track to dry out earlier than usual, since all the trees are gone now.

All the trees? I liked the trees on the side of the track.

OMG, some GREAT and hilarious answers!! Here is SoCal most tracks are perfect for moto1 but by moto 2 they are drying or dried out. Sounds like I'll just rum my normal intermediate "black ones with the little knobby thingys on them" tires.

Damn, this is some funny stuff.

Every tree in the infield is gone, and about half of the trees in the pits are gone. The new owner's insurance company made them cut the trees in the infield down

A lot of the trees in the pits were removed to make rome for RV hook-ups that are under construction, they also removed any trees that were dead or dying
