Default Throttle stop screw

Replacing the Throttle stop screw on my carb. I can't find any info in my service manual as to how to set the adustment for this screw. How do you determine the depth of the screw once you put it back into the carb?

Thanks!

Dave

man I am reading some crazy stuff about this screw on other sites. Still no clear answer. The previous owner definitely messed with the screw, as I can see the lock nut is a bit worn from wrenching. so there is no way of knowing how the screw has been messed with.

what purpose does this screw even serve??

It adjusts the idle speed. Usually this screw is adjusted once maybe twice and that's pretty much it.

Set it initially so that it raises the slide just a little from the relaxed position then adjust it with the engine running to whatever speed you want.

What bike are we working on here?

Thanks MX,

We are workin on the 01 CR125 with the Mikuni TMX carb. That gives me a place to start. As of right now the idle seems to be fine, we'll see after I rejet it. The stock jetting is super rich, Just got my carb rebuild kit, new main jets and I saw there was a new stop screw.

Thanks for the help!

Dave

So... Do I use the air screw or throttle stop to adjust the idle??

First of all - I am NOT a Honda expert, so I do not really know the personality of this carb.

But - typically, you adjust the idle speed by adjusting both screws. First, adjust the speed screw to a decent idle speed. Then adjust the mix screw until you achieve the highest, smooth idle and then turn it back in by about 1/4 turn - you may have to adjust the idle speed screw down if by adjusting the mix screw you achieve a idle speed that's too high. After the mix screw is adjusted to achieve the highest smooth idle and it's backed in that 1/4 turn, adjust the idle speed back to where you want it. It sounds harder than it is. It took me longer to type this up than it will for you to do the deed.

After you have adjusted the mix screw, shut the bike down and then count the turns in. If it is out more than 2.5 turns or in less than 1.25 turns then your pilot jet probably needs to be changed. Let's cross that bridge when you get there.

If this is inaccurate for your Honda, I am sure someone will jump in here momentarily and prove to all that I don't know my Honda carbs. If nobody jumps all over this post, then you can safely assume that it is useful information.

Thanks again Scott, I'll let you know how it goes once I get the carb back together!
