Default Thoughts & Prayers Needed

Well I haven't said much to anybody except Mr Berg when I called last Thurs but I feel I want to share now.

My father was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer June 11th 2009. The cancer has spread to his liver and he has had a heart attack (mild) and a stroke (mild) in the last week and a half. I just got off the phone with his wife and she told me he has days to live maybe a week or two at the most. Deb and I will be going to see him for the day tomorrow in Santa Cruz, Ca. I am pretty sure this will be the last time I see him. He is in a fair amount of pain and having a lot of morphine to control that pain.

I simply ask that your thoughts and prayers are with his wife and ask the man above or whoever you trust in that he isn't in a lot of pain in his last few days with us.

Thank You,

Dane

Dane,

Im very sorry to hear this.
As I have learned, it is easy to take moments, and time itself, for granted.

There is very little that I, or anyone, can offer for comfort at a time like this.

I think the best that can be offered to your Dad is to remind him that he has raised a kind, genuine, honest person, in yourself, and that his teachings will be passed on through you, and through your wisdom, to people that he loves.

May god bless him, His wife, yourself, and all that have been touched by his presense. I will keep him and his family in my thoughts and prayers. I prey that the outcome is is not what is expected, but through the power of the lord a miracle is acheived.
God Bless

Jim

Dane,

I'm very sorry to read this news. Know that you have many friends here that will pray for you and your family. My dad used to tell me that sometimes the Lord works in mysterious ways. I'm sure there is a master plan for all of us and someday we will know why. I'll say a prayer for you, Deb, your father and his wife.

Dane,
It was GREAT to speak with you last week and try and keep your chin up. These times are always difficult. As mentioned in our conversation "remember the good times with Dad" for I know there are many. Personally, I hope your Dads suffering in minimal as I do not want him to suffer physically. Let him know you love him and be thankful you had him for so long, for many of us are not so fortunate.

I will keep you and the family in my prayers and thoughts. If you need to chat, give me a call. I always have time to listen.

Sincerely,
Mike Berg

Dane,

I am sorry to hear about your pop.
Please know we are hoping for the best in this situation.
In your visit, if you can, try to share with him all the good things you and your dad have shared. Celebrate his contributions to you, your family and his friends. Let him know how you feel about him. Love him and kiss him like you did when you were little. There aren’t too many chances like this one, its OK to be mushy.

Prayers sent.

P.S. Hope I wasn't too ...........................???????? over the top. That's just what I would have done if I had had a last moment with my pop before he passed.

Default Update

First of all thank you for the well wishes and prayers I know my step mom and my father appreciate it.

Well here is my update. We left at O dark 30 (5:00) yesterday morning to begin a tough 800 mile round trip in 19 hours. Due to my stupidity I cost myself another hour with my father. Missed my turn off while talking to a customer on the phone and drove another 25 miles before I noticed. Deb and I did take a few minutes to stop at some favorite stops along the way when we used to go up there all the time to visit. We just didn't know when we would be back that way so wanted to remember some good times we had on our many journeys to see my dad.

Anyway I got there and he is in bed at this house with a view of the harbor in Santa Cruz, CA. This point I make is very important and ironic as he is a sailor and taught me to sail when I was very young. At 12 years old I single handed a 33' sail boat 32 miles from Marina Del Rey across the channel to Catalina Island for my birthday.

He pretty much perked up and was alert for about 6 minutes when we first arrived then back to sleep with the drugs (morphine). He was in and out the whole time, more out then in but thats what is keeping him comfortable right now so I understand. I got about a total of 20 minutes with him awake 2 hugs and a kiss. That is all I will ever get again but it was worth every second! I have my memories of adventure and hijinks sailing the oceans off of So Calif and Mexico as a young boy and teen.

I was able to talk a bit with his wife (his 3rd) and let her know how much she meant to us and that I hoped she wouldn't be a stranger after he left us. She said she was going to get to know her grand child that she hasn't met yet and then return to Mexico to live where her and my father have lived for the last 7 or so years. I didn't get to see much of him the last 7 years but the memories will get me through until I see him again.

I am going to try and go racing this weekend and get my mind off of this bump in the road, the end of a circle that did come full.

Sorry for the mush but I felt like writing and shared with you.

Dane

No mush Dane as that is straight from the heart of the man I have grown to know. There is absolutely no shame in letting your heart speak here. I'm happy to see you got some time together and that will prove to be important. Remember those good times and hold them close as they can never be taken from you.

My fine Danish Brother,

You know I'm praying for you and your family. I'm so glad for that you and your Dad got to spend that time together. It sounds like he really connected with you when you got to his side. You and your father had some great times, remember them and keep him close to you always.

Love ya my Brother.
