Surgery is all scheduled and I am ready

To all,
I had my pre-admission session at the hospital this morning. Monica and I got evverything squared away and Big Maico is going to be here to help out (thanks big brother, y'all need to realizw how much the bonds we form here mean when the chips are on the table.

The surgery, a PLIF at L4-L5 amd L5-S1 will take about 4-5 hours. The surgeon is a first rate guy and I feel good about this. I am going to give blood so I can use my own during the surgery. According to the nurse and anesthestist I should be in hospital about 3-4 days. That is no sweat after 4 weeks in 2000 for the abdominal reconstruction.

I am so thankful for the prayers and kind thoughts and the cards (Twisters are super people!) during all this. I am ready to get back to work anf to MX racing with John/Madcow again. He started and rode the 426 last night for me; man I wanted to ride so bad.

Y'all take care and enjoy the roosting, I'll see everyone at the planning meeting rides adn at GMB III.

Regards,
Bill Barnard

Unhappy History of a bad back

Pragmatic,
Well I injured my back originally in a fall at work in 1989. I did a spinal compression that gpt the nerves to my right leg and my bladder control. I was not riding at the time, I was still off from my 70's racing time.

I compensated well and styed at work as an engineer for a general contractor on Navy and USACE construction projects. I returned to dirt bikes in December 1999 to be with my son John (Madcow here) and got back to MX in 2002. I ruptured L5-S1 in Oct 2002 and after racing two classes at the GMB I I had a laminactomy the following week.

I rehabed and returned to MX in March of 2003 with good results. In June I noticed the numbness and pain in the good leg had returned. The surgeons did some recon and tried nerve blocks with no luck. I had a full recurrence of the ruptured disk in Oct 2003 with a laminectomy on 20 Oct 2003. Three days after that surgery I felt the disk give and the leg went numb again. They did some tests that hurt like heck to go through. The decided I was right to ask for the PLIF in December and now you know how I got here. None of this is MX or dirt bike related. P.M. me or email me if you need any in depth or some cutting talk. I am always available. My email is whb-mdmb@att.net
