Angry stripped drain bolt

:I recently purchased a used 00 yz426. Changed the oil and the drain plug bolt on the engine is stripped. Any suggestions on how to fix this will be appreciated. My fear is the bolt coming out, followed by the oil and we know what will happen next.

I would replace that bold if I was you! If the bolt is still in the engine and you can't get it out, try with a chisel and a hammer!! Lay the bike on it's side, put the chisel against a side of the bold and give it a (not to hard) pound with the hammer (left direction) normally after one stroke the bold can be turned with your hands. Let us know if it worked ok!

The easiest fix is to use a time insert or helicoil which means you drill the hole the size according to the size of the helicoil/insert, then tap the threads and then insert the helicoil and then you have the same size hole. The other choice is to find a slightly larger drain plug and re-tap the hole size.

Need to clarify the original post. It is the alum. engine case that is stripped, not the bolt.

Get a piggy back plug- it's a steel insert that installs in the cases and comes drilled and tapped with a new bolt so you are taking the bolt out of steel and not the soft aluminum every time.

Thanks for all the input. I will try to find some type of insert and hopefully be able to ride this weekend.
