TWMX has a very cool article for fixing stripped threads.

Go here to check it out.

Looks pretty cool to me.

time serts are the ticket. they are far superior to helicoils. i have used them before with great results. the kits however are very expensive

Well I respectfully dis-agree to a point.

I'm a retired Sr Mfg Engineer and now run a small 25 man aerospace assembly shop.
I know a lot about Heli-Coils. Every airplane you ride in has a gazillion Heli-Coils.
Time serts are very good when you have a big loss of material in the hole, but I will use Heli-Coils in most repair conditions.

Breaking the tangs is a matter of technique and if you hit the tang wrong (they make a tool for this) it will distort the last thread.

My 2 cents (respectfully)

i use helicoils as well. i have used the time serts for oil drain bolt repair, and spark plug hole repair, where you need a solid piece

are these time-certs effective for cracks that have formed in the threads. mine is not only stripped, but under a magnify glass there is a hairline crack in the threads, which makes the drain plug leak.

I was told that if the crack gets worse i will have to buy a new case.

the right seat bolt is stripped on my CR. I have had the seat off quite a few times since I have had the bike..I noticed that the bolt hole had a little sleeve(looked like that time sert thing)in the hole..well it must have fell out when I had the bolt out last or something and now the bolt won't screw in because the origninal threads are stripped:..so I had to use 2 wire ties and tie it down :
