I run the Sunstar Z sprocket. Its steel but half the thickness of a normal sprocket to keep the weight the same. I have been on the same one all year.

This would be a good question to answer for me also. Ecept I have an '05 CRF250R. I assume renthals are lightest, but are not strong at all? I'll check out the Sunstar that IwishI mentioned.

I have a 52 on my bike. My stock gearing is 13-51. It will probably differ on your bike though. Where will you be racing at?

I'd go with Ironman sprockets. Steel strength and light weight. They are working well with a DID X-ring on my CR. I think I paid around $165 for my chain and F/R sprockets. Scott

One Great tip i got on sprockets that I've never seen mentioned here is; Swapping two front sprockets during the life your chain and sprockets. Previously, i would wear out the front sprocket first as well as the chain and the rear would still be good. Last winter when i went over the bike i got renthal sprockets and a renthal o-ring chain. I bought a second front sprocket and swapped them out every 2-3 rides. Through the year i rode every week minus 4... at least 4hours each , and raced 8 hare scrambles. The whole setup is just about due for replacing now, but not totally gone yet, and the front two sprockets still show the most wear. This worked very well for me and would recomend it for the cost of an extra front sprocket (18.00), i think it extended the life of everything since the front would have been shot halfway through the season and i would have had to replace all. Anyone else do this?

I dont know about other peoples experiences but i love my renthal aluminum it is awsome and has been on the bike for over a year no problems. You can also get cheaper ones and change them out every so often. Your choice.

Get an oring or an xring. Xrings are a bit better. Last longer, more expensive, and go on a hell of a lot easier. We couldnt get my oring on with orings around the master link without vice clamps. And no, the ring chains wont rob ANY power. It just makes them harder to push when the chain is cold, but they last more then twice as long.

[Only registered and activated users can see links. ] And the sprockets from the Thumpertalk store who matched the Qualitysmart price of (at the time) $74.95 rear and $24.95 front. I got free shipping from both because I was buying other stuff at the time as well. The Ironman sprockets have gone up since the first of the year some (about $15 for the set) I think so I'd check around. Still I'm sure you can find the set for around $185. HTH, Scott |
