Default So I finally decided..

..My 'MOS' in the corps. I'll be leaving for boot first week of september, and after that I will be off to school of infantry. And after that I *should* begin my rigourous training and schooling for Recon.

Should be interesting!

Max,

Congratulations on your decision. IMO being a Marine is a special thing. It takes courage to enlist during a time of war. As your date comes closer be sure to remember your parents. Watching a child go off to the military service is difficult for a parent. I remember how my parents felt when I went in over 30 years ago.

Prior to your leaving date make an internal decision that you will stay focused and become determined to be the BEST MARINE possible. Pay attention and do what they say. This will help you develop habits that will stay with you for a lifetime. The Corp will also recognize this personal commitment and will reward you with promotions. When a person is in the service there is no better feeling than being recognized for being a good soldier.

Learn as much as you can, perfect the training until it becomes an instinct - it may save your life and the lives of others around you.

Thanks for having the courage to serve this GREAT country!

I second what Mr. Berg has said. The commitment you have made is to be congratulated. You have a year to prepare yourself as well as your parents for your departure. Use that time wisely by keeping yourself out of trouble and getting yourself into a good physical fitness routine.

Thank you for your service! During a time of war, it is extremely honorable for someone, such as yourself, to sign up to become part of our military, and you should feel extremely proud!! Good luck!

Welp, just got back from MEPS (for the 3rd time), and swore in. Also got my ship date and solidified my position in 0300 (infantry). Looks like this cat's gunna be dealing with GySgt. Hartman on 20070813.

That's august 13th 2007 for you silly civilians (and Hartman was the Drill Instructor in Full Metal Jacket) Heh, juuuust kidding. Talk about a long day though, I'm glad I only have to go to MEPS the day I ship for my final med inspec. Anyone wanna join by the way?!?! If I get 3 people to join I rank PFC right out of boot AND get my dress blues for free.

Max, what you did is a very noble deed. Thank you for volunteering in a time of war. Like Motodad said, start you PT now and the boot camp will be less demanding physically on you. Thank you again.
