Default A sign of things to come?

Was out at the track on Friday (Milestone). Some guy, late 20s early 30s, 160lbs, out on the mini track tearing it up., passing everyone, roostin and wippin like all get out. His bike looked kinda funny, a little smaller in stature than a full sized 250, but bigger than a 85. The other funny thing was.......it only whirred when it went by, even when roosting. Go over and take a gander after he pulls off the track and low and behold, its electric.
I got to throw a leg over it and was impressed by its weight, very light, and by the way it pulled from the bottom up, it had some nice grunt. It topped out quick though and that’s probably why the guy was on the mini track, but I could see some real potential. I think once they get the battery situation, or the hydrogen conversion situation down, this could be the way of the future. Sure could keep a lot of trails open.
The name of the bike was Quantya, made in Switzerland. I have seen the Zero but only on the web so not very impressed. Even the web vid of the Quanya isnt all that hot but the guy at the track really knew how to wring this thing out. It was fun to see the guys on the 80s try to keep up with him.

What was the battery life on it? did they have to charge it at the track? and if they did how long did it take to charge?
Like it or not, everything is going that way, from cars,to trains, bikes to boats, hybrds. are just a step to total batt power.
who knows if they get nuclear fusion down, endless clean power at the flick of a switch.

The guy said that the battery lasts about 45 minutes at racing speeds or for about 25 miles wide open. The battery was about the siz of a two gallon gas tank. I didnt see him charging it, he had another conventional bike that he rode most of the day. The weak link to all of this technology is the battery; its charging and capacity and its disposal when it has reached its last cycle.

I decided to look up a little more info on this Quantya, cause it sounds pretty awesome.

Heres one thing I found:

Quote:
As you’ve probably gathered by now, it’s electric; recharging from a standard wall outlet. It makes about 16 HP, weighs 195 LBS, tops out around 50 MPH (depending on gearing) and can be ridden for up to three and a half hours or 25 miles before it needs recharging. A full charge takes less than 2 hours. With 23 lb-ft of torque available from 0 RPM, it wheelies pretty good too.
That's pretty impressive for an electric motor.

Also,

Quote:
The second is that the Strada is available for sale now in all 50 states as a road-legal vehicle. It costs $10,700 for the version you see here, or $9,975 minus the license plate and with knobbier tires.

For a little extra weight, they should really try to add an "alternator" of sorts, perhaps by the rotation of the wheel. It might not work due to the added drag and weight, but it seems like if they could rig something up to repower the battery as you're riding (even only a 50% charge), it would add a lot to the value of it.

Regardless, imagine the possibilities these could open up..Urban motocross park anyone?

By the way - [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] have a pretty impressive bike as well.

Oh yeah, I can see it now...Team Sunbeam, Team Magic Chef, Team Cuisinart......"....and here comes Billy Bermbuster, on the new Blendmaster 450 (amp), working his way through the pack! Looked like he came out of that last turn on puree but he made up alot of ground, by hittin' the triples on liquify!" It's gonna' get weird.

Think of your energy savings, no clutch, no shifting.
Think of the safety factor of no lost shifts.
Some on here can attest to that.
No lost hearing due to loud exhaust.
Huh, whatcha saying?

Yeah my ribs are hearing ya on that one. Actually I found a company that makes a longer shift lever so I am looking into that as that would fix my issue I have had since I broke my leg.

Interesting and exciting. In RC cars, electrics have come so far they are starting to overtake the nitros. I will admit though, even with all the positives, I would also miss the sound of a MX bike whipping by on full pipe. The sound adds alot to the excitment.
