Default service manual....?

What's up? This is my first post, but I'm hoping you guys can give me some help. I have just purchased a 2001 yz426f and I'm wondering where might be the best place (online, perferably ) to find a factory service manual. The previous owner didn't have even the owners manual, and being the first dirt bike I've owned in about 8 yrs, I want to make sure to take care of it. Thanks for any help, Charlie

Get a factory Yamaha manual. Clymers suck and Haynes manuals are only slightly better. Yes, both are better than nothing, but the factory manual is the best and it's available, so that's the logical choice.

I bought the Yamaha manual off the Yamaha website for $60 and honestly, I'm not too impressed. It's nice to have, but there's not much technical info in there. Basically, there's a lot of places in the manual where it tells you to do something but doesn't explain how to do it. Also, I remember seeing somewhere that there are three different types of manuals offered by Yamaha: an owner's manual, an owner's service manual, and a mechanic's service manual. I would have liked to get the mechanic's manual but the only one available on the website is the owner's service manual. Long post, sorry...hope this helps!

OK, but at least the torque specs and such are correct in the Yamaha manual. That's frequently not the case with Clymer and Haynes manuals.

Yes, and they're also frequently wrong. Wrong data is no better, and sometimes worse, than no data at all.

kingsizechuck.......
Do a search for "Motorcycle Manuals".
There is a ton of manual information out there for different prices, however I feel in manuals, you tend to get what you pay for.

Manual in PDF file at Garrett's site

Kingsize,
Go to the Garrett Berg section and find the link to his Motoman393 site. There is a PDF file with the manual you need for downloading. Just print it out when you get done with the down load.

Regards,
Bill:

Thanks for the help, the factory owners manual helps alot. Anyone know where I can possibly get my hands on the Yamaha mechanics service manual? I would just like as much info as possible. Thanks again, Charlie

Service manual

Kingsize,
The manual at Garrett's site is a service manual. These come with a new YZ purchase. Yamaha of Troy lists them in the OEM parts fiches for $53.00. Good luck with your search.
