Default Scariest Moment Ever

Had the biggest scare to date since I began working on bikes (about 14 years):
I had a guy coming to look at a '00 yz125, but I needed to replace the tank because the original was cracked. So, I rushed home during lunch and got it switched. After work, I checked everything over and started it up. It had fired up before and run decently up and down the block (I usually run them once before buying parts to check the clutch/trans without opening it up. Well... the idle was hanging so I started checking over the air screw and idle settings. It would hand and then load up and die. After a few tries, I started it, and it completely ran away on me. Kill switch didn't kill it, disconnected plug cap and fuel, but it still didn't die. I started to panic and then realized if it ran out of oxygen it should shut off. So, I plugged the exhaust with my palm and sure enough it died. Scared the CRAP out of me. For a few seconds I was just expecting it to grenade as I scrambled to try to kill it.
SO: IF you ever have a bike run away, just know that plugging up the exhaust will kill it pretty quick.
Also: The guy wound up taking it because he was going to do a full rebuild and fully restore the bike anyway and was only interested in it being complete.

Sheesh, that could have ended up much worse! Glad it all worked out in the end.

Definitely! Especially considering that I disconnected the spark plug cap and it was arcing everywhere... and I had spilled some gas at lunch time transferring the gas over to the new tank. Thank God it was just the scare... and ear damage, hahaha!

Just drop it in gear while holding the brakes. This has happened to me a several times over the years while running the carb dry for storage. I am always prepared for it now.
I have heard that you can hold the throttle wide open and it will kill it, but I have not tried it.

That's a good idea! I totally panicked and resorted to yelling like Chewbacca for about a minute trying to think of things to do to kill it while trying not to get shocked by the arcing cap (worst idea ever, by the way...)

I wasn't taking video, but I'm sure my face was hilarious to look at. I already sold the bike a while back and replaced the tank.
