Angry Say good-bye to ~107,000 acres of WA public land!

Well, it should be an easy push now, the Wild Sky bill has passed the House. Advocates are touting this as a way to stop urban sprawl and protect "habitat for bears, bald eagles and other wildlife, as well as streams, hiking trails and other forms of recreation." What a bunch of BS! I wonder if it ever occured to them that there are other ways to provide for all those things without a wilderness designation. Roughly 107,000 more acres gobbled up and locked up. I don't know what kinds of recreation this area experienced, but since SAWS has been so involved in this process I would imagine that it has been used for some time by motorized recreationists. They even go so far as to say, "Wild Sky will protect more low-elevation acres than any other wilderness area in the state, bringing wilderness closer to our communities." Wonder how they'll feel about that when the bears and cougars start attacking their dogs and children...
I suppose there's no point to my ranting now, but I just received the email and I'm enfuriated. Will we be able to stop the next one? I sure hope so. OK, rant off now.

Once more the politicians cave to the Sierra Club and Earth First. Chase, you and I know that cougars and bears rank high above any children in their way of thinking. A few rich, elitist left leaning creeps will enjoy the hiking and time needed to use this area now. What a waste.

Here is a web site I found- Wild Sky Wilderness Proposal. It has a map and tells you where it's at. It's over on the west side, so that all the Starbucks sipping city dwellers will have somewhere to go google at the wonder of nature. These people truly have no clue, and I'm not sure they know what they've gotten themselves into. They are claiming that this proposal protects old growth forest, crititical salmon habitat, and a bunch of other crap I didn't bother to read. BUT... what happens when a fire starts? I don't know if this is FS land or not, but as far as I know NO agency fights wilderness fires- wilderness areas are managed as "nature rules" so when a fire starts, guess what? Poof! No more old growth, no more critical salmon habitat, nothing but black ground and dead trees. Oh well, at least they'll be able to hike out there and look at the dead trees after the fire is out!

the small map in the bottom left hand corner shows where this is in relation to Washington State. Sucks for us, for sure.

Apparently, this affects quite a bit of good riding, mostly the Reiter trail system. It also 86's a lot of good snowmobiling ground. See all that dark green on the map? That's ALL existing wilderness! The medium green is National Park Service... aka no motorized recreation. The lighter green is the FS lands actually open to the public (by that I mean ALL the public), which as you can see are the minority.
