2 smokes will normally puff smoke pretty good right at start up until the accumulated fuel/oil get cleared out.

Yep, sounds normal to me. Are you having problems with the bike bogging or fouling plugs?

If your bike didn't smoke at all, I would be concerned, but this sounds perfectly normal to me.

Well when I was at the track my bike stalled on me a few times towards the end of the day...and when it fell it was hard to start (this is normal but i thought i would throw it in here anyway)...I have not checked the spark plug yet. |

Well I am not sure, but in my experiences, if you can get your bike started in a couple kicks or less, your plug is probably fine. When my plugs fouled, I couldn't get the darn thing to run at all. Its probably fine I think, but then again I don't know much more about this stuff than you do Just keep the throttle screaming and it shouldn't stall anymore

99.9% of 2-strokes smoke a little (sometimes alot) on startup. As everything starts warming this will subside. You may still get a little smoke as you ride. I would do a 10-15 minute session, let the bike cool down and pull the plug. Your plug should be a copper in color. You mentioned your hesistant to work on the jetting. If you want post a picture and we can help you with the jetting, if it needs it. -Kevin-

The 2-stroke carbs are REALLY easy compared to a modern 4-stroke carb. If you don't own a manual i would seriously suggest buying a factory manual for your bike. Even you got a clymer manual your one step ahead of the game. After 2 months of working on bikes my wife got the hang of jetting, top ends, basic suspension work and general bike maintenance. You'll get the hang of it. Try reading some of the technical posts on here. You WILL learn alot! -Kevin-
