Default Rm 250 chain touching rear tire

I have a 03 Rm 250 my chain touches the tire to where the side of the chain is polished And rear tire sets to the left In the swingarm I bought this bike used so could the spacers be wrong or somthing else has anyone else had this problem

I've only ever seen that when the chain has been run too loose.

But yes, the spacers could be on the wrong side I suppose -- or the rear wheel could no longer be true as it's supposed to be.

Check for proper spacing first on your wheel but it sounds to me like your rear wheel is dished wrong and is too far to the left. If you are good at truing wheels all you need to do is start with a quarter turn loose on the left side spokes and tighten a quarter turn tight on your right spokes. Just make sure you have enough threads on your right spokes to do this and they will not go in too deep and stick up inside of your rim. This will take care of your problem with the chain hitting in most cases.

If your not comfortable in messing with your wheel/spokes just take it into your local shop and tell them to dish the wheel a little to the right. Hope this helps.

If your wheel is "dished wrong" send me a picture. I need one. I am guessing that you already checked alignment with a tape, and that the swingarm bearings and wheel bearings are in good shape? No play etc? When the bike is on the stand, and everything is lined up (ie axle parallel with the swingarm pivot bolt) does it touch when turned then?

Umm maybe there is another terminology for "dished wrong" but thats just what everyone calls a wheel pulled by the spokes too far to one side that I know??? Sorry, Im just a backyard wrencher that has seen this before lol!

BBA, I used to see it a lot too, but since then the manufacturers have made a much better wheel with a much better rim and what amounts to being straight spokes. On those I just don't see it anymore. I am not sure I could get one more than a 1/4" out if I tried. Heck some of the ones I laced up in the 60s' wobbled bad enough to hit the chain.

we put a Riken 4.00 on a Yamaha 80 once. It would hit the chain of you had it properly aligned. Wasn't easy to get on that rim, but to a couple of 16 year olds, it seemed worth it.

Yeah your right on the mfgs using a lot better wheels/spokes these days like DID & Excel. I guess I was thinking more of if someone had laced up a new rear rim on his bike since he said he just picked it up used. I just had a front wheel on my Honda that I had to fix that was off to the right side. I used ProWheels & White bros spokes and oddly enough it was pretty far off the first lace up

If everything else is lined up in the swingarm like its supposed to be, the chain is not too lose and the proper shims are in place on the hubs thats the only other thing I think it could be.

A 4.00 on a little 80???? Now that must have looked like a dragster lol.
