About two years ago New Mexico start having everyone register there ATV's and dirt bikes. I havn't registered any of mine yet. I need too so i don't get a ticket, but i have an issue. I can't obtain a title for the bike i just bought. the owner before me slacked off and never got it from the guy he bought the bike from. I tried contacting the original owner with no luck. i suppose the motor vehicle department might be able to do a vin inspection and settle it out that way. i dont know i havn't called them yet, and i hate dealing with them. The other issue is one of the vin numbers is worn off the steer tube. The stoppers on the fork clamps have smashed it a few times. i would imagine the state has some provisions for custom bike. a friend of mine has changed motors and frames a few times. he has a tittle but it doesn't match the bike anymore. anyone run into these issues before. O ya and i hear MVD gives you a plate to put on your bike to. sounds retarted. Maybe i'll put it in my air box.LOL

hum never thought of that. I'm not sure if it was ever registered. It's possible, but the original owner bought and sold it before the state required registration. I'll look into trying to register it that way. I do have that guys name. Wish i could get a hold of him thou. thanks

If you have the VIN number on record you should be able to get a title bond, but with the VIN not visible on the frame, it could be difficult. If your local DMV requires a pencil rubbing of the vin, you could run into some issues going through them for a title. If not, just get a bill of sale from your seller and call a title bond company and tell them you need a "defective title bond". With the title bond, you can go down to your DMV and register the bike (provided that there are no liens on the bike). In TX you have to go down to the regional DMV, attempt to transfer the title, and have them right you a rejection letter explaining why your title transfer was rejected. The DMV then hands you a stack of papers(with the rejection letter) that the bond company will need to issue the bond.
