Reed/Vuillemen Caught Cheating!

The AMA penalized Chad Reed, David Vuillemen and Hadsell 25points for using illegal fuel at the Dallas suppercross. They also tested the fuels of LaRocco, Hansen, Whindham, Tedesco and others but they were fine.

yeah, there was already a thread about this, a lot of ppl thought that that was a bunch of B/S......since it's 95% rider.....

I have a hard time believing
(1) Any of those guys fuel their own bike
(2) That they would know the fuel they had was illegal, and
(3) That someone in Reed's position would be willing to take the chance of getting caught.

There is a thread on TT about this as well. It will be interesting to find out what really happened.

* tisk tisk tisk * i guess that's the way yamaha's can win. even in the mag reviews said that the yz's didn't run very good on unleaded fuel.

I have to agree.

I remember seeing a video not to long ago about when someone was interviewing Reed. He didn't know what the fuel petcock valve on his bike was. If that is the case I wouldn't expect that he does to much to his bike other than ride it. If there is any cheating going on, they should be looking at Yamaha not the riders.

NONE of the pingers the pro's use run good on unleaded fuel! Reed could win on any color bike with any fuel, that guy is talented. Mike Fuhre- high compression 2 strokes like the pro's run really like leaded fuel to keep them from knocking and detonating, but the AMA made a new rule this year that everyone had to run unleaded fuel.

Yamaha Motor Corporation, USA was notified on Friday evening April 23, 2004 at the Salt Lake City Supercross that Factory racers David Vuillemin, Chad Reed and Yamaha privateer Tyson Hadsell had been penalized 25 points each by AMA Pro Racing for using illegal fuel during the Dallas Supercross. Team Yamaha is baffled by the findings, the timing, and the unprecedented 25 point deduction and plan to appeal the ruling.

AMA Pro Racing implemented new fuel requirements beginning with the 2004 season. The AMA informed teams of available fuel field testing equipment; Team Yamaha purchased the equipment and subsequent testing at each race returned levels meeting AMA requirements. Prior to the Dallas Supercross, Team Yamaha’s fuel had most recently been tested, and passed, after Chad Reed and David Vuillemin finished 1st and 2nd at the San Francisco Supercross.

Team Yamaha, Tyson Hadsell, David Vuillemin, and Chad Reed are disappointed with the AMA decision but remain focused on the Salt Lake City Supercross. Chad Reed will be aiming for his 11th Supercross victory of the year and is optimistic that the Supercross Championship is within reach at Salt Lake City or on May 1, 2004 at the Las Vegas round.

was it over-oxygenated or leaded or what? all they say is that it "didnt meet requirements"- well, were they cheating with fuel that made the bike go faster or were they "OMG" polluting with leaded fuel? (this IS pro racing)

and are you kidding about Reed not knowing what the petcock was? what a goof. sorry but that p's me off that these guys dont know one end of a T-handle from another. :

Blitz- he didn't know he had to turn it on to begin with! It would be more like, "Hey, will you go get my mechanic for me so he can figure out why my bike won't start baby?"

Ya it is true. It is a video of someone interviewing him. They asked him something about it and he tried to B.S. his way through it, then he just kind of looked around with a dumb look on his face and everyone had a laugh about it. I looked for the video it to post the link here but I couldn't find it. Maybe someone else here has it.

A reporter asked him about his fuel "petcock" and he couldn't understand when he said petcock . Who calls it petcock?
