Default Prayers for BigMaco - Howard Lobel

PLEASE PRAY for HOWARD LOBEL- aka BigMaco393!
“Howard took a big digger yesterday at Rio Bravo.

He is currently in the Shock Trauma unit at Memorial Hermann Hospital in Houston. He evidently whiskey throttled over a berm at Rio and body slammed a tree. He had surgery last night to remove his spleen. In addition, he suffered a broken femur, open break to the wrist, and a broken ankle. According to his wife, Donna, things were iffy last night as his blood pressure fell, he also developed compartment syndrome and didn't have blood flow to the hand or foot. That has been restored at this time and he is currently in surgery again to work on the wrist.

Please say a prayer for our friend Howard.“.

Taken from Dave Garner post on FB.

Really sorry to hear that. I wish I lived closer so I could help out more. Definitely send prayers to big H and hope he pulls through soon! Let us know where to send some $ if need be. I know atm isnít what it used to be, but it the spirit that started it lives on. Howard was always there for others when they needed help and it will come back around. Iíll do what I can.
Thanks mike, keep us posted.

OK WOW, when i read this i thought it was an old post. It sound like a post from a couple years ago. My heart is aching over this, my little voice said all most 2 weeks ago to call Howard and check in, it's something we try to do about once a month and it was over do. I hate to see bad things happen to a great guy.

I am just in shock right now.

Please keep us updated when you can.

UPDATE STATUS OF HOWARD LOBEL: Latest update as of Tuesday @ 3PM
"From Donna: Howard is now in room 855 in the Jones Pavilion @ Memorial Hermann Hospital in the Medical Center. They had to put a drain tube back in his belly as it was hard & swollen. He's miserable - can't get comfortable - hurting, etc. They are going to try again tomorrow afternoon to fix his leg."

If Howard is healthy enough after they fix his left leg, they will also attempt to reconstruct his shattered left ankle also this afternoon. If not he will need surgery #4.

Thanks for the prayers and well wishes.

I will see Howard tonight and visit with Donna Lobel tonight.

Default UPDATE ON BIGMACO393 - Howard Lobel

I went to the hospital and visited Howard last night. He is in bad shape, but all indication are he will make it. It was 'touch and go" on Sunday due to internal bleeding and the potential for possible internal organ damage. They removed his spline and are draining body caverns of excess blood. They continue to monitor his kidney function to rule out any problems. Howard only has one kidney as he donated his other kidney, thus saving the life of his cousin. Just another example of Howard's big heart!

They have reconstructed his left wrist (compound fracture) as it was shattered and yesterday they repaired the left femur (also compound). The leg swelling remains a challenge, thus he is undergoing a skin graft today enabling the doctors to completely close the left leg wound/muscle sewing them back together. His femur is held together by a titanium rod inserted through the knee inside the femur bone pieces to make them one femur again.

He will have a 4th surgery on 6/21/18 to completely reconstruct his left ankle.

Yes Howard had all the right safety gear on when he rode. Heck there were times folks thought it was 'Darth Vadar" on a Maico or KTM. Thankfully his neck and knee braces saved both knees. His helmet cracked/split on impact!

Howard and Donna said to say. "Thank you for the well wishes and prayers." Donna is holding up as well, actually better than most - considering the circumstances. Those two have an amazing relationship and Donna has an extraordinary amount of patience.

I encourage you to continue to send the prayers from "Those who Ride" as I know first hand the value of those prayers!

In case you may be interested his temporary address for a couple weeks is:

Howard Lobel
Herman Memorial Hospital
Jones Pavilion; Rm# 855
6400 Fannin St. # 2900
Houston, Texas 77030

I will refrain from providing the phone number just yet, but may post at a later date as he improves. Those who know me can call me/or email me and I may give you the phone number.

THANK YOU FOLKS FOR CARING AND SENDING PRAYERS - KNOW they are APPRECIATED DEEPLY!

Wow. Scary accident. Glad he had all his gear on as it sounds like it could have been much worse. I've never met Howard but from what everyone's saying it sounds like we need more people like him. Wishing him a full and speedy recovery.

Default Update on Big Maico393

Hello Folks,

Howard had surgery (4th) and hopefully the final surgery on Thursday late afternoon on 6/14/18. I spoke to him on Friday and he was doing surprisingly well. He has become accustomed to pain and has a good mental attitude. His road will be long, but "The Return of Big Maico393" will happen. I did not see Howard over the past weekend, but will make an attempt to see him this week. He cannot bear any weight on his left/foot/leg for at least 90 days.

The accident was just that an accident - freak thing! Howard is very skilled and historically cautious when he rides. As bad as this accident was, it could have been worse - much worse. Thankfully Howard will be with us for year to come.

I would like to say that Howard had ALL the necessary safety gear on for the type of riding most here on ATM do. The gear Howard was wearing may likely have prevent a premature fatality. Please wear your gear when riding. An accident can happen to any rider - regardless of experience.

I know Howard would like to hear from some of you long-time ATM'ers. He has his cell phone with him. Please call his cell number if you have it. If you would like it, PM me and I will coordinate through Howard to determine if he can take calls.

Thank you for the well wishes and Prayers.

All the Best,

Mike Berg

I’m glad he’s on the mend! A long road ahead for sure and I’ll keep him in my thoghts and send along something helpful. Accidents happen, to everyone not just dirt bikers. We do like to play a little closer to the edge though
Thanks for the update mike

Hey guy’s

I’m no longer in the Hospital, I’m in a sort of rehab. Can’t do a full 3 hrs of rehab.

Look’ s like the plan is 18 days of lite rehab to build up my strength & then see where I go next.

Full rehab or home with rehab coming to the house.

Thanks for the well wishes & prayers!

Phone # to my room is 936 442 6916
