Default Powerband or no powerband?

I'm wondering what you guys normally do. Do most of you jump IN the power band or before it. I've only ridden 4 times. Should I jump a gear higher out of the power band?

You should ride the bike for quite a while before you even worry about jumping. You will break bones in this sport no matter what. You'll break even more by jumping before you are ready.

I agree..... Learn how to ride the bike first. Then start small and work your way up

Once you have gotten comfortable on the bike your jumping will have a more natural feel to you. Concentrate on mastering the basics like cornering and braking so everything comes naturally to you. Then you can let the momentum you have developed a feel for will carry you over the singles. Get these down and work on whoops until they are natural to you. Long jumping will follow later.

Jumping is about momentum, like Florida said. Once you are more comfortable you will naturally carry momentum and will not really worry about if you are on the power or not.

Hmm..I guess on the mx track I ride on (the only one I can ride on..) I will just pay more attention to cornering and braking like you said than jumping

jumping kind of comes along by itself. once you get to the point that it is "coming along" I would take some time where there were no other riders and do some practicing. by then you should know the rpm band where your bike is comfortable. Some thumbnail rules are: more throttle raises the front end while you are in the air,,,shutting the throttle drops the front a little,,,hitting the rear brake drops it a lot. Stay off the front brake.

Don't rush anything. Pushing is natural, rushing is foolhardy.
