And, this comes from a man who was knocked down harder than most. These are words to live by right there.

Thanks Ernie. Many folks have been knocked down like me, and many even harder. What I have learned has primarily been from making mistakes and messing up along the paths of life.

Often times my actions leave much to be desired. My heart may be in the right place, but sometimes my "head" has trouble seeing sunlight - if you know what I mean.

life is not measured by how long you live, but by the experiences you have in that time.

“There is nothing more unequal, than the equal treatment of unequal people.” – Thomas Jefferson

Interesting quote for this day and age.

Perhaps our Founding Fathers had more wisdom than they are currently given credit for, especially when it comes to "sharing your wealth."

Reminds me of me and how my mom always tells me to "think with my head, not my heart". Sometimes it's hard to control what I lead myself with. heh

Neat thread. Lots of wisdom that I'll have to take the time to read completely some day. It all means more to me now than it would have a couple months ago. I had a tumor removed from my brain and it was a pretty spooky experience. But, it's looking now like it was just a bump in my road so I'll continue to live one of my Dad's favorite lines:
"Nothing is as wasted as a day without laughter".

Tracker,
Thanks for the comments and congrats on the safe removal of the tumor. Your Dad was a smart man. You have done well for not forgetting his line.

You know Jerry, when I found out I was going to become a "Dad" - I was excited beyond belief and scared at the same time. I did not have a clue on what to do to be a Dad. I remember thinking that I will just make sure that my kids never wanted those "things" that I wanted from my dad and never got. Not because he was a bad Dad, but he was a always working. He grew up during the Great Depression and simply worked all time. I too worked more than I should have early on, but I did take time to help create memories and have a great relationship with my kids.

I simply got lucky and I listened to my wife. She once told me, "if you expect your kids to be good they will be, if you expect them to be rebellious they will be." Reluctantly, I followed her advice. She was right and has been on many an occasion.

I think of and pray for you and Karen often. Hang in there my friend.

Now there's a positive thought for reflection.
Personally, I have noticed that Suzette's quiet wisdom rivals your own. I reckon Garrett had a great influence from both Mom and Dad. You guys are a great team.

I have one...

My late grandmother always told me: "Nothing ill gotten will ever bring you joy".

If only the greedy business and banking execs followed that one.....

It has helped keep me honest in many a tempting situation.

Thanks David. You observations are right on! Suzette is quite and reserved but has a "certain" intuition that is worth listening to (most of the time ). The 27nd of Oct. was our 25th Wedding Anniversary.

Any woman who can put up with me for that long, well has to be something.

funny one a friend(my manager) at work said to me the other day. my stomach was killing from the halloween party the night before, i spent alot of time leaning over the garbage can but anyways. on break a few of us went to a&w and they were laughing at me as i ordered a single baby burger.
my manager,"why would you get a single baby burger!?"
me,"i dont want to push it"
manager,"you need to know your limits! and you dont know your limits until you test your limits. AND YOU DONT TEST YOUR LIMITS WITH A BABY BURGER!!"

so a few lessons learned here.
1.) alcohol and energy drinks are not a good mix
2.) alcohol and multiple energy drinks are not a good mix
3.) alcohol and multiple energy drinks consumed in a short period of time is not a good mix
4.)?to know your limits, you must test your limits?
and possibly most important of all...
5.) YOU DONT TEST YOUR LIMITS WITH A BABY BURGER!!

you really had to be there, it was quite funny at the moment. and i did feel amazingly better after i got something in my stomach, i think the empty stomach was the biggest thing to start off with.

Nice one json! The wisdom from our elders always warms my heart. Your Grandmother was a very wise woman!

I like this one, as our Federal Government continues to prove this to be very, very accurate!

All great quotes! I like the one you quoted Mr. Berg about fouling things up (the govt)...seems very appropriate these days!

One of my favorites is one my grandfather had on the back of his pickup...."Getting old ain't for sissies". I tend to use that now that I'm north of 40!

Jerry, you are a great encourager! I hope you and your family are doing well!
Psalm 107:1 (a favorite when I need encouragement)!

Kelly
