hmmm.. yeah, it can actualy become a real problem. a prime example is [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] I used to be a member but it went down the toilet. they even put in a forum for off topic discusions and it took over the board. we should cut down on the non moto stuff here. a little is okay but we're giving them their own designations.

the problem madcow is thet we're a small community. there is only so much pure dirtbike talk. to keep the site rolling there needs to be daily discussions. with our few members, there is bound to be alot of ot discussions.

Ive seen this very same thing brought up in forums like this and IRC. When the mods start coming down on people for OT stuff, then the board dies cause people cant be themselves...Part of discussion is being yourself...If someone doesnt like that..what do you do? You dont talk to them..Ive seen many a discussion board fold cause the mods freaked out if everything wasnt exactly topic related. A little too much OT is not needed but some is good. Makes people feel comfortable and they feel like they have friends they can relate to...Just my .02

(not slamming any sites but....) just take a look at DRN, a perfectly good thread could be fried or locked if it goes off topic. (just an example i am not putting DRN down, i am a member there too)

right after i read this i went to the general discussion forums and saw this:

OT: SCHOOL'S BACK AAAAAAaaaa *JUMPS OFF CLIF* by Madcow393

aHA! gotcha! LOL

I think OT posts are great. There are not too many of there here that it is overtaking the board. However it does give everyone a chance to talk about something different and look for ideas from a wide group of people. I say keep them around and don't inhibit it or people will go away. If this becomes a problem then we could have it toned down. Not a problem at this point.

I agree, I enjoy the OT posts, as long as they are kept under somewhat control, I love them.

Where else are you going to get this many people's opinion on something?

Actually the OT was started by one individual, but oddly enough it took on the Acrynim name of Off Topic. Which is totally False

The truth of the OT was started by a guy, that had one eye and could only see half the board he was typing on. His name

Ogee Ipokedmyoneyeout

Legend has it that Ogee was intelegent man but could see so good. he made up archaic stories that made no sense at all. So as he kept typing others kept asking what is this all about untill someone coind the phrase

"Another Off Topic"

Hence the OT is taken from his O of the first name and the Ending T of his last name.

I hope thats clear for everyone.:yum

LOL @ Ego

I agree that the OT posts allow this to feel like more of a community of friends and allows us to get to know each other. For example I belong to a gaming clan and probably 60-70% of our posts are off topic. However I consider those folks some of my best friends...even though I have only met a few of them in person.

*edit: BTW...I am not saying we want to encourage 70% of the posts here to be OT
