I won't go into all of the nitty-gritty details but I went in the morning of and was as nervous as all get out. The nursing staff was great and they put me at ease...a little bit. Pre-op went well and I had a brief consult with the Doctor and the Anesthesiologist.

Time for the surgery and they wheel me into the OR and the Anesthesiologist and I are chatting while he gets me ready and the last thing I remember him saying, in mid sentence, was goodnight and that is the last I remember!!! I woke up in recovery and although groggy I could see very well. It felt like there was something in my eye like a piece of dirt and the nurse told me that was the incision and it would go away in a couple days.

The doc arrived after I recovered and he did a couple quick tests and said everything went very well and I should be at least 20/40 but probably better than that again. My eye was sore and swolen and when we went out to go home the light was intense...and yes, intense even with the welding helmet style of sunglasses they gave me. I slept most of the way home.

Went back this morning for a follow up and all is great!! He said the swelling should be gone in a couple more days and the incision is healing nicely. My vision is good and it will get a little better within the next couple weeks. A couple more check ups in the following weeks and I'll be as good as new...well, almost!!

I took for granted my eyesight and have never been a sickly person. This was an eye-opener (no pun intended) for me and I realize that as I am growing older I will be more subject to minor types of issues. Even though I recently had my annual physical and all is good, I need to pay better attention to what my body is telling me and go see the doc more often. Next up, a colonoscopy....arrrrg!!

Big "E"

Very glad to hear (and see) that things turned out great. Now just because you'll have "Like A Kid Again" vision, this doesn't you have to ACT like a kid... again.

Ernie,
Good to read that you are doing well. I'll keep you in my prayers for a while, heck, for good since you are a first responder. God Bless you and take care.

Bill
