Default Nocona Ride Yesterday w/video

Kirtwell, TexasDirtNap and I went to Nocona yesterday. Kirtwell was out there roostin and pimpin like he do and I was out there trying to hang on !

TexasDirtNap showed up with his son and we went out on the track. The second lap around TDN had his 450 pinned to clear one of the doubles and man he was flyin!! The wind caught him and kicked the back out and when he landed (and he landed hard) the bike was out of control. TDN almost saved it but deceided to hit the eject button. I was right behind him and wussed out on the double.....and what a blessing in disquise cuz I would have landed right on top of him. TDN bounced pretty hard along the ground. It knocked the wind out of him and hurt his back or possibly some ribs.

The strange thing is that 4 of the spoke nipples sheered off and his front rim is bent. He really sailed that double but none of us could figure out why the spoke nipples broke.

Anyway that was the end of the day for Chris. They loaded up and headed home. Kirtwell and I stayed until about 4 and tried to work on making me faster! (it's all about conditioning and being punished! LOL).

You guys let TexasDirtNap hear from ya. I know he is really feeling it today. Chris, it is just a motocross thing you know!

Here is the video shot by SkinnyJM and edited by Kirtwell

Possibly some of the spokes on the front wheel were loose? That could do it.

Anyway, hope you are doing OK TDN.

Hey guys, i'm feeling pretty good today. Landed that double dozens of times before. The wind was a stiff gust and i haven't ridden with that before. Can you say Surprise ! Almost recovered this one. For a split second it felt like I had saved it but noooooooooo ! Last thing I remember was saying goodby to my brand new scratchless YZ450 as I hit the eject button. Landed on my back & butt. Could have been worse, thank God.

Yesterday I kept the ice on all day. Couldn't really walk and by the time I got home I could not lift my right leg. My butt muscle up top got mashed on the landing. Guess its an impact bruise. Amazing how the muscles all work together to lift your leg. Didn't pay as much attention to the shoulder blade impact point. It hurts a little more today.

Didn't tell the wife the details, figured i'd get no sympathy anyway. Told her I fell off, sounds much better than 'high speed impact with a double twist half gainer at 40mph'

Satch/Kirtwell, how about next weekend. I'll be ready.

Chris, Just took a break from my fence building project to eat lunch and saw your post. Glad your feeling OK. I am sure your gonna be sore for awhile. I am out next weekend. We have alot going on with Christmas parties and stuff.

Glad your OK!! I will be more than ready to ride the weekend of the 13th. I ran my bike dry yesterday and I think I sucked some trash into the carb cuz after I gassed it up it was running bad...alot of coughing and bogging. Got to clean the carb and do all the other routine stuff....maybe even shine the tires! LOL

Later

Brings back old memories TDN!! It was one year to the day on Saturday that I broke my back at Nocona. Glad you made it out better than me! I for one feel much better today than I did this time last year! Two broken vertabre, two cracked ribs and a bruised kidney... but me being the tough guy I am, I waited until Monday to go to the ER

TDN, on a new bike (Especially a Yamaha for some reason) you should stop about every hour or so and check the spokes. Those thing CONSTANTLY come loose for the first few rides. I almost garantee that, that is what it was.

Sorry to hear that TDN, glad to hear your okay though...The spokes probably sheared of when the rim hit the ground, if its bent then they sheared because of the oposite side of the rim when it bend put to much pull on the spoke on the other side causing it to shear it off...

Glad to hear no broken bones. It's never good to hear about crazy get offs. I am usually the get-off king of the weekend but today I managed to stay on 2 wheels at Holeshot Valley.

thanks for the words of encouragement

Big M. Definately give me a call when you are in town.

Motoman, hadn't checked the spokes but makes sense that they were loose. TexTwister has a pretty good explanation. I'll ask at the shop.

Keeto, I aspire to be as tough as you Thanks for the thoughts Keith. We'll swap some tough guy stories next time we're out. I just hope I can stand being around a bunch of p_$$ies until then

If this is what it takes to be a tough guy then maybe that p_$$y thing isn't so bad

Glad to hear you are doing ok!

The spokes on older bikes seem to stay put better. All the corrosion kinda keeps em there if you know what I mean!

I had a bad weekend as well. I havent crashed in 3-4 rides, but today at the track on my last lap (it always has to happen on the last lap!) I was railing a very deep, sandy berm up on the top and the berm blew out, my front tire literally sunk into the sand, and I just tipped over on the lowside of the berm. I tried to kinda do a funky hop off the bike to the side as it was tipping over (so it wouldnt fall on me) but the bike fell into the berm (which was very steep) and the full force of the bike falling over went right on my foot, which was caught in between the rear seat bolt and the hardpack ground underneath the sandy top rail of the berm. The result is a very bruised foot, and a very bent subframe. I think I can save it with a hammer though.

Anyway, you arent the only one who had a bad day at the track! Heal up and get back out there!

Do what Garrett Berg did to all his bikes. If you jump them puppies you need to ziptie the spokes at the cross of each pair. The young man knew about everything else try that before you go backout.(looks cool too) alot of the old flat track guys do it also.

Thanx bro,
The video was short but the 4 original minutes of AVI quality of video was 800 meg:
Just to make a small video like that takes 8 meg....at the lowest quality...Jeez
I'll make up some more footage if you guys want to see them.
