To bring you up to date: I got my son a 06 YZ85 a couple of months ago. Well the bike ran great after break in and other than general mait the only tuning I have done is to adjust the airscrew a little. Well about 2 week ago he fouled a plug while the bike was warming up and their is alot of the 2 stroke spoog that collects on the silencer after each ride. Now the way I make him warm it up is to kick it over and allow the bike to warm until the radiator is warm to the touch then he can start to rev is to clean it out then he's off. The bike runs great. But before the rev clean out it sounds pretty boggy like it's loading up. Just wondering if you think maybe I have a jetting issue or is this just normal ops for a 2 stroke. Remember we are in hawaii so: 85 deg with 60-70% humidity is normal year round.

What kind of oil are you running? it sound slike either crappy oil,,,or it is mixed wrong. i would go with torco or amzoil 100% synthetic mixed at 40:1 I am sure it says it should be mixed 32:1, but I think that is for non synthetic oils

All 2 strokes spooge a little. The bike is gonna bog after sitting for awhile when you first start it up until it's cleaned out. Your jetting may be a bit rich for your conditions. What does the plug look like? You want it to look like cocoa. I had similar issues after I first got my bike. It was fouling plugs left and right. I slowing messed with the jetting until I found what works best for my riding areas, and now I'm good as gold. Now it only fousl plugs occasionally after my bike hasn't been ran in awhile.

Where is the airscrew at? You could always go to the next smaller pilot and see if that helps.

I run Castor 927 at 32:1. You just have to have it jet it right. Btw listen to faded he knows what he is talking about. Here are some jetting links (some provided by faded) How To Set Your Motorcycle Carburetor Float Level (more commentary). http://allthingsmoto.com/forums/showthread.php?t=25614 [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] Last edited by kx_rider53; 01-19-2006 at 06:21 PM.

It all depends. You wouldn't know if it's jetted right unless you rode it, or if your son knew what his bike should perform like when it's properly jetted. Loki I think you're jetting is still off. A properly jetted two-stroke will never foul a plug unless you're jetting is for a faster track, and than you ride a tighter more technical track with out changing jetting.

Well the bike runs great and it's not fouling plugs left and right. The big thing/ Question for me was; it normal for 2 stroke to sound and act like it's loaded up after it warms up? After the warm up and a couple of good revs the bike cleans out and is very crisp.

It is running too rich. It has nothing to do with the type of oil or what ratio your running it at. Like faded asked...where is your air screw at ? How many turns out?

It could probably be cleaned up a little if it is fouling plugs. My bike loads up while warming up and riding around slowly, but once I open it up it is fine. I've never fouled a plug. You might want to try a cleaner burning oil, and rejet for that oil.

There's drastic changes to where I ride depending on what time of the year up here in the NW. I ride track and trail. Mostly out in the woods. I could start at 500' and end up around 2500'. My jetting is what the pipe manufacturers recommend. I switch out between 2 different pipes depending on where I ride, and either go up or down on the main. Two strokes foul plugs, It's the nature of the beast. Now if I could get some dial a jet going it would be on like Donkey Kong. I could use a different needle, but that will have to wait. In Rangers situation I'd check the air screw as Faded has already stated, but sounds to me like it's gonna still be running rich. He's in warm moist temps out there. Keep it WFO, and fugetaboutit.

I just changed the stock plug on my 250. 13 months and 60 hrs on the stock plug. I would not say that fouling plugs are a nature of the beast at all. It's all about jetting. Here is an excellent post that will help pg 1 http://www.allthingsmoto.com/forums/...6&postcount=10 pg 2 http://www.allthingsmoto.com/forums/...8&postcount=11

yeah its deffenetly getting to mutch fuel......mine does it at warm up but after that its fine.....i'd say its jetting get it to abosulte flat out top revs and kill the engine and chek the plug and if its rich change the jetting.. hey when i raced gokarts my plug was bright pink thats how well we had it going and somtimes we did'nt change a plug for 2 years....reliable ngk risister plugs r the way...go for about an 8 or a 7!

well another question is weather or not he is riding at a high rpm to burn al the fuel that is going in, besides being rich. maybe you should return the air screw to stock and see how it does.

Loki, your wasting $$ on plugs! Get it jetted properly and you wont need to be replacing them. On the other comment about different jetting for different types of riding, that is not correct. Most people jet too rich. Tdub
