I am currently thinking about getting a helmet cam. There are some on eBay for like $130 that seem pretty good but I have some questions: 1: Has anyone used these cams? Do they shoot decent footage?[Only registered and activated users can see links. ] 2: I need something that is cheap to record the video feed from the helmet cam onto. I have a digital camcorder but it is a little to expensive to be wearing around on a MX track. Anyone know of something that will work well and is cheap that it can record on? thanks!

When you buy a helmet cam all it comes with is the actual camera but not a recording device (you need to buy something seperate for the camera to plug into so it can record). So im looking for something that I can use to record video feed from the helmet cam onto, not to use as the actual camera itself.

The only thing I don't like about that one is there's no housing for the camera itself. However, it is a 480 line camera, which is nice. I'm not really sold on the dual audio input...so far I've been satisfied with the single on my camera. Like I said though, the biggest drawback is no protective housing. Have a look at [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] . I have the 380 line setup and have been really happy with the quality so far. As for substituting a camera...the only other thing I've seen is a setup offered on ebay where they record to an Archos multimedia thingy...it's like carrying around a laptop sized harddrive. Regardless, you'll still have to carry something around..and that Archos setup is still just as expensive as a video camera. I know Psyklone carries his camera around in a daypack, packed in a small tupperware type container with foam and to date...has survived a loop-out and a tree trimming attempt.

I really like the quality I have seen from Char's helmet cam. There is a new Samsung camcorder that comes with the helmet cam. I do not have any experience with Samsung, so I cannot speak to their quality. However, the cool thing about it It records directly to mpg4 format. Which means...no need to capture the footage, less risk of camera or tape damage, and good quality footage. It seems very interesting and I am strongly considering it, but I want to see some reviews first. It also claims a weather resistant housing. [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]

Yea, its a camcorder with a seperate lense that you can use as a helmet cam. I just found a price for it and it's like $650!!! I think im going to stick with the normal setup for now.
