I believe that "Adobe Premiere Pro" is a pretty accepted standard, but as with most Adobe software it's not cheap. Adobe list's it at $699.00

If I were considering video editing software I'd probably look to the open source community first. Sourceforge.net has quite a few tools. I haven't used them though, so I can't make suggestions. You might also wanna check out http://www.doom9.org

Mostly doom9 is useful for locating software for ripping/burning/decoding/etc dvd's.. but they might have a useful editor too.

Sorry for the delay in responding.

I do use Adobe Premiere Pro, and it is an absolutely awesome app. As far as less expensive...depenging on what you are planning to do with it and how many bells and whistles you want, you may wanna try Windows Movie Maker

Let me know if you have any questions...I will try to help out.

Theres an alternative version for that i believe, only its free. The Linux guys made a movie editer for windows thats free, just like they did for Photoshop (free version called gimp). Im not sure what the movie editor is called though. Theres a way to get most programs legally and free, you just have to know how to do it.

w00t! W@r3Z!!!

oh, n/m, you said legal.

I've toyed with gimp-movie err movie-gimp ?! Anyhow, I wasn't too impressed.. but it's worth a shot. I had somewhat of preconcieved idea after using gimp under linux quite a bit. Although gimp is a handy opensource image editor.. it really doesn't hold a candle to Photoshop... well, not if you already have photoshop expectations. It can do the job, and I expect that movie-gimp can too. It's certainly worth a shot. Hell, it's free!

I haven't gotten around to searching for windows binarys... but if need be someone could probably set you up with a compiled version for windows. If nothing else you could install cygwin w/ X11 support and then install movie-gimp.

If you're running windows, and are not already familliar with linux or opensource/compile yourself software, this probably sounds like hefty number of steps. But it sounds like there are at least a few people here who can add some pointers if need be.

Final cut pro or whatever it is, you can only get it with Apples. I wanna get one, but money isnt on my side, or parents. If my sis takes this comp. to college, then its a possibility, till then I use windows movie maker.

Windows Movie Maker is free.

I have not messed with CinePaint at all, but I have played with Gimp before. I agree that it is not anywhere near Photoshop quality, so I expect the same is true for CinePaint vs. Primiere.

As I mentioned in my first post, which editor you choose depends alot on what you want to do with it.

Cut scenes music and text and also to speed up and slow down. What your videos show is all that so looks like Adobe is for me. I'll get my friend to give me a key and burn me a copy thanks.

Gimp has almost every feature photoshop has, and it has every feature I've ever needed.

it has never crashed on me

the menu's are in different places, so if you learn photoshop first you'll like it more, but I adapted to gimp easily and like it more now

and it's a whole lot cheaper

I have not tried cinepaint yet, will have to give it a try
