Default Leatt Vs. EVS Evolution

Anyone heard much about the EVS Evolution? I read that it doesnt offer the same protection as the Leatt, and that it only protects two points of impact but I cant find it anywhere now. It also seems others are starting to not wear their Leatts. Langston no longer wears it, Villopoto's broke on impact which lead to his collar bone break. I wonder if the savings of a few dollars for the EVS is alright or if its junk? Want to buy my kids something, but at 360 bucks for the leatt I am not so sure. Plus its made from injected Carbon Fiber, which in my opinion may be light, but carbon fiber breaks easily....

Anyone have any opinions on the matter? Anyone heard anything about the Alpine Stars collar that Reed has been wearing? I wonder what that is going to cost and what the protection is.

I am interested in hearing real world reviews as well, even though I've also forked out the big bucks for the Leatt. I posted a video from the Dealer's Show the other day with a little more info on the EVS brace.

I'm sure there will be plenty of discussion, but I'd take a broken collarbone over a broken neck anyday. I've heard that argument plenty and it just doesn't sit well with me.

I would like to hear some real reviews as well. I tried Doc's Leatt last weekend and I couldn't stand it, I may need the spacers installed, but the way it hit my helmet in corners and felt like I couldnt' breath when on the gas I really didn't care for at all.

I may do just that. I do raise my shoulders when coming into a corner which I think everyone does, so it shouldn't be an issue once adjusted I don't think.

Leatt sure are protecting their product

Leatt Corporation settles with Fro Systems

Posted: Wednesday, 5th March, 2008 : 8:44 AM - - 834 Reads -

Following a hearing in the English High Court, Leatt and FRO Systems have reached a confidential settlement of their dispute over the alleged infringement by FRO of Leatt's design rights in the Leatt-Brace for use by motorcyclists. Under the terms of the settlement, FRO has stopped selling its Neck Protect product and will pay an undisclosed sum to Leatt.
Dr. Chris Leatt, the designer of the Leatt-Brace and Chief Executive Officer of Leatt Corporation, said that he was very pleased by the outcome, "Leatt have spent millions of dollars researching and developing the design and functionality of our novel neck brace. We shall not hesitate to take all necessary action to enforce our intellectual property rights which protect the product internationally." Both parties are pleased to have resolved this matter amicably.

If your Leatt-Brace™ MOTO GPX breaks you may be thankful that you were wearing it as it has done its job. It is designed to break under extreme force. This property is a means of redistributing energy away from the cervical spine. In some instances only parts of the brace might need to be replaced.
the $360 brace is made of glass reinforced nylon, not carbon fiber.

I hear you Flea man, but thats what patents are for, protecting your intrests. They were smart enough to design it so they should prosper from it for a while i reckon. A bit like paying toll on the Sydney Harbour bridge
