Default KX 125 setup

Hey, i am going to be picking up a 2001 KX 125 soon, i will be sellign my 97 rm 250 also. I will have aobut $800 to upgrade the bike for me. Im thinking, $300 in the engine, $100 to powdercoat frame, and $400 for the suspension. What is your suggestions for everything, i may be able to spend a little more, but not much, im on a budget. I am posting this in the genral becasue i want opinions from everyone, and in has to do with both suspension and the engine. Suposedly the engine is ported, i cant be sure yet. If it is i was thinking of a phat head, Wiseco piston, and needed gaskets. It already has a PC pipe so the exhaust is already taken care of. For the suspension i want of courst a fork and shock revalve, im a big guy at 220 LBS and i know the suspension wont be suited for me. If there is other accesories you guys like, suggest them and they may be on my future wish list!! Thanks alot guys, im so happy i have the opertunity to do another winter rebuild, i had lots of fun building my banshee up last year, cant wait to do it again!!

looks like you have some good ideas.. i would definetly do the suspsension like you were saying.. if it was me personally i would spend all the money on things to make it fit me better.. at 220 pounds im sure yur a pretty tall guy.. so maybe a taller seat.. and some different footpegs.. and different bar bend.. and of course suspension... to me that is more important that motor mods.. because it is kind of hard to use the motor to its/your full potential if you dont fit on the bike well.. just my opinion.. but do whatever you think is best

The suspension will cost about 600 because of your weight you will need new springs aswell. Get your motor done by moto814.com, Porting and head mods for only 160. Spend the rest on what ever you please.

duh, i forgot to tell you where i ride! I ride in trails alot, but also jump alot and play around in pits just as much so i cant really have a weak top or bottom, need it good all around. I am thinking a flywheel weight would be nice, what size would be good +7oz or +9oz? What companies would be the best for the suspension work? Thanks for the tips guys, keep them coming!

First priority should be setting up the bike - get the suspension done for your weight/riding conditions. Re-jet the bike for your conditions and then work on the egronomics. I found the seat on my 01 KX125 a little low and soft (and I weigh 150lbs). A CEET "Tall" replacement foam is the way to go imo, plus taller, further foward bars to open things up a bit. Overall, its an awsome, and very under-rated bike. I also owned a YZ125 and liked the KX much better.

first thing-suspension

dont powder coat the frame, waste of money right now

second- engine

third, get small things like new airfilter, set up your gearing ratios
maybe buy sone hand guards and/or asv levers, maybe even buy a kick stand and definately new bars provided your currently running stock or they are in bad shape

Yeah, save the powdercoat until you have all the upgrades and the bike fits you good. Then after you have all the upgrades you want in the future do stuff like that.
