This is one of those threads that your going to get a bunch of different opinions on. What's the best pre-mix, how much should I spend on a helmet, what's the best 250 4t mx'r, the choice really comes down to personal preference. I have raced and riden motorcycles for 30+ years now. I have gone with and without knee braces. I personally prefer wearing them now. I wear the Asterisk braces and love them. It took some getting used to but now I feel nekid without them. They don't hinder my ability to squeeze the tank and I just feel more comfortable wearing them. You do run a higher risk of breaking your tib-fib or even your femur but MX is a risk/reward sport anyway. Weigh the options for yourself, educate yourself on what's available and what you can afford and get out AND RIDE!!!! Your helmet and your boots will be the most important purchases, everything else falls in place after them.
I have spoken, all yee heed my words....

Having broken a couple of legs and had my knees put back together a few times and spent almost 2 years rehabbing after surgeries... I'll take a break over a tear any day. My motto for the past decade has been that "bones heal and tears don't".

I've been the route of wondering about knee braces myself. Decided against them when a doctor told me that it would be better to suffer through another knee surgery (I've had two on my left knee) than to bleed to death because a broken bone cut an artery. I don't wear knee braces.

I'm sure this legendary broken femur stuff is possible but I can't think of any examples of it happening in the past decade or so. I do remember a few riders (Windham mostly) who weren't wearing braces that did break femurs and I've actually broken my upper portion of my CTi2s 3 different times (which they fixed for free) and obviously saved my femurs from at the very least some serious bruising.

I would definitely buy them. I have a simple pair of EVS ones and i cant ride without them. I definitely think they are worth every penny. before i got them i blew out my knee twice, and had several hyperextensions. GET EM!!
