Default Insider Information...

Check it out....you may or not have heard but the development of a competion thumper for the 85cc two stroke class has been non-existent. Until now, a major factory, you guess which one, has been testing one in the California desert. The bike revs up to 17,000 RPM's and will most likely send the 85cc pingers down the long desert highway as well. It will most likely hit the showroom next winter. So, if you are looking to get off your 450 into something more manageable or if you need one for your...cough..cough...kid, you are in luck.

Hmmmm Interesting Chuck.

I think it would have to be 1 manufacturer that would be so far ahead with the thumpers..

17,000rpm. Get ya earplugs out!

Just wondering, why test it in desert?

No way that mini thumper is taking down the 85's . If they do, 2 stroke still has the upper hand in the 65 class

It'll be here very quick. And you might take note that it's not from the worlds #1 fourstroke maker.

Sorry people, I can't reveal my sources. I was sworn to secrecy. I will say that some of you are right and some of you are wrong. My boy saw it with his own eyes, not a magazine or an idea. He said it sounded like a Formula One engine.

Mini thumper not taking down the 85's? The question is when not if. I've allready seen minithumpers take down 65's. Those cheap, chinese built, Honda clone, pitbikes like you see on every street corner can spank a 65.

I think they test in the desert because there is nobody around. Maybe, you could say the extreme conditions but the weather right now is very tolerable if not pleasant.

I don't know. My neighbors kid has a 70cc thump star, and my sons ktm 50 easily pulls away from it. I was just out riding it a couple hours ago.

If they can come up with something that doesn't cost a arm & leg . You're gonna pay double for the 4 stroke mxer.

But then again, you're Mr Insider.

It's going to happen, I don't think it's a matter of if, but when.

I just hope the valve train is cheap, cause it will need to be replaced with every oil change...

All depends on how its made, current 600cc sport bikes are maxing out very close to 17k rpm and maintance is very low compared to most 4-stroke MX bikes. There's always a trade-off of performance/weight and reliability. But think, a 600cc 4 cylinder street bike engine typically dyno's around 115rwhp now days. 1/4th of that would give 28hp 150cc single.

Yeah i think it will happen but they will have to make it affordable and reasonable maintenance. As of now from what i have seen, i dont think its happening. I say that it will be affordable and good maintenance in about five years or so even though it could come out in a year or two.
