My son has a 2000 with more changes than i can remember. one change he made in 2001 was to a 2001 cylinder and carburetor. He went back to the Keihin within weeks. If you want a little more response, it is a cheap way to get it (changing to the PWK).

He has a reworked shock and forks. According to him it didnt do as much to improve the machine as stiffer springs did. You may want to try that before you spend any money valving the suspension.

If you are not racing it, and it gets to be time to replate the cylinder, consider one of the oversize piston kits and some porting. Then you will likely be in the market for a flywheel weight. Like the CR's that came before it, the one you have is pretty bullet proof. If you want to make a real cross country rig out of it, there is still a wide ratio gear set that will work with the 2000 and the 2001. (It is designed for the crf450, but the 2000 and 2001 use the same transmission shafts and it is a drop in). Baja Designs sells the one I speak of. I wish that Honda had stuck with the same shafts in the 2002 and later CR250's.
