Default I need advice in buying a new motocycle

Hello everyone

Everyone knows I am a die-hard Yamaha man. The last two bikes I had was a Banshee and R6. Well, when I had my accident and had to have my back surgeries, I got rid of my bikes. Now as you know, after I got better, I bought my new YZ now I am looking to buy a new street bike. As I said I have had the Yamaha and I had a Ninja years before the Yam.

I would buy a R1 in a heartbeat if it werent for the fact that I went to the World Moto Tour in Atlanta this year and had a chance to sit on all the bikes. I guess why I liked the R6(and R1) so much was because the Yam are geared so much for racing. The ergo on the Ninja is so much closer-in that it felt more race-like than the Suzuki. But then, I set on the Buell, I fell in love, They were so small, with the smaller rake, and the performance and with those great brakes....they have the greatest technology in brakes. But everyone is racing the Suz or the R1(or Ducati) so I have no way to tell how they perform

Has anyone any input..if not could anyone point me to a site much like ours(ATW) that I could raise these questions

I have no idea, but in short order you'll have more responses then you can shake a stick at. I personally like the Buell.

If you want performance as your main goal....stay away from the Buell. I've never ridden one but the #'s don't stack up with the rest. (If you're a guy who buys by the #'s) Gotta LOVE that perimeter front brake rotor....too F%@#COOL! Coming off an R6 and wanting more HP? You want a racebike. Can't tell you what to buy.....but how 'bout a Kawi Z1000 naked sport? 126 rear wheel hp 10:6 quarter and "The most comfortable sportbike seating position ever."

BTW the Buell XB9 has only 78 rear wheel hp(compared to your R6 105) and runs a 12:8 1/4 mile. @368 lbs. it IS light but not fast

Stand by for the new BMW K1200S!

From what I hear it's got something like 165-180 Hp with about 135-150 Hp at the rear wheel.

It's a completely new sport bike with an goal of taking on the Duc's & Aprilas.

I've been seeing bit's & peices about it in the street rags' for a few months now, should be here real soon!

Than we will see if it's all they say it is?

I really am not a fan of Suzuki but I havta say I almost dropped when I saw a streched hayabusa in person, it was sick, so nice. I also love the RRs they are nasty looking, but other than that stick with yamaha deffinetly.

Great input WFO!! No the #'s is not really my main concern. I want a bike that rides well, has good brakes, and has comparitable hp #'s. I am not looking for the fastest out there but "all around" performance is my main concern.

I have not rode the new Kaw. I loved my Ninja, but the breaks were terrible..

I wish someone would establish a dealership that would allow licensed bike riders to come in a test different bikes to see what they liked. The motocycle industrie is the only place that expects you to come in and dish out 10-20,000 for something you cant get some quality seat time on.

Well the R6 is a great all-around bike, it is light with great breaks, it has more of a race feel in the body position. I would like to move up to the 1000+ now that I can afford the insurance. I called today to get quotes and on the R1 it is going to cost me 2012.00 for a year!!! That is with full coverage. But since I am paying cash for it, I can get away with only liabilty...that is only..get this...121.00!!! Now take into consideration the insurance on my YZ250 is 158.00 for a year....aint that crazy

Personally I like the Buell Firebolt XB12R. It does have 103 hp and 85 ft lbs of torque stock. But what you have to remember that it is a harley engine there's a million hop ups you can do to make the thing super fast. Just my .02

Supposedly the r1 is putting out like 175 RW, and 0-60 in under 2 seconds....When you comebine those numbers in a bike under like 400 lbs', if you got the money you gotta winner right there..

If you can, try and go with a V twin, as in the past (it's been a while) the insurance is WAAAAY less, because for some reason they don't consider the twin to be a sport bike??? Go figure.

I rode the X1 in 2003 Biketoberfest. Not my cup of tea. Cool exhasut note and comfortable seating but it ends there. It felt very short on power compared to my 929 and it VIBRATES like hell. I only rode for about 20min and my legs where numb. Handling was ok. Buells do not compare to sportbikes they are in another league. If you want something with power and comfort I would get a zx12R handles better than the Busa and more than enough power. Its also rather comfortable for a sport bike.
