Unhappy Haven't rode the 500R in a year!

Well, I've been so busy with life, work, and college, that I haven't ridden my 500R in a year! I find myself too tired and too busy to even pull it out of the shed. Don't get me wrong, I'd love to go ride tomorrow, but I can't with my schedule. My days off from work are on school days, so I always have to be someplace 7 days a week, and it keeps me worn down.

So I have to ask advice here:

I keep asking myself why I should keep this bike and not sale it since it's just sitting with no time for using it in the near future. I have a lot invested, love the bike, and would love to keep it around, but I also hate to see it just sitting for so long and could really use the cash for other things I need in life right now.

What would you all do if you were in my shoes? Keep it or sale it and move on? I'll still ride in the future, but right now I have no time for it.

I sorta understand what ya mean, 2k...

When ya bike isn't getting ridden as much as it should then you begin to question why having it. I loved riding my bike but I didn't have time and needed money for education.

I honestly thought I couldn't live without a bike and riding, but now that's what I face and it's not as bad. I get my moto fix from sites and mx vids!

One thing to think about is Can you find another 500R to replace it when you get back to riding?

If so, then go ahead & sell it.

I haven't ridden any of my bikes; street, dirt, or otherwise; since August 20, 2005 when I broke my femur during a flying dismount from my 2002 CR250. I don't know when I'll be able to ride again because of complications with the femur break.

With that said, you'll get my bikes from me in the same state as you get my firearms: from my cold, dead hands.

I wouldn't sell it if I were you. You've put a ton of money into the bike and got it all done up the way you want it. Getting your money back out of it will be difficult, unless you tear it all apart and put it back to stock, and even then you'll probably lose some of your investment. You also have a bike that is out of production and clean examples are only going to get more rare in the future, which makes replacing it down the road more difficult.

I have an idea: instead of posting here, go riding.

Id like to ask what you'd use the money for? Is it something important or would you just end up blowing it? If youre just going to blow it, you might as well let the bike sit and itll be ready to roll when you are. How difficult will it be to come up with money to buy another one? Would you end up buying another 500? Can you see what Im getting at? Im in the same boat. I have a CBR1100XX that Ive only ridden once this year. Ive had 4 people hounding me to sell it to them all year long, but the money Id get for it, I dont need, and if I were to replace it with another bike later , it'd cost me a whole bunch more to customize it like I have this one...So it sits. How sad, Im gonna rip up some pavement this weekend!

I've wondered the same thing myself. I have only ridden my bike twice since fall of 2004. Very sad indeed. Much like you, I would love to go ride every weekend, but life gets in the way right now. Family, Work, Church, etc, etc. Unlike you, I don't need the money, and like DRGsin, it would cost me so much more to replace it later, that I will just keep it and it will be ready when I am. If you're asking for advice, mine is to keep it. (But you need to make that decision, not any of us on ATM)

Don't sell it!!! If you do, when the time comes that you do have a chance to ride, you're gonna hate yourself for it. You have alot of time, and money wrapped up in your machine. The money will come and go, but the bike will always be there.

Man, you are in a tough spot. I have been there and I ended up selling mine, but I wanted/needed to get rid of some bills at that time, and physically couldn't ride.

I think if I were you, I would keep it if you can...the time will come when you want to and have time to ride it again.

Thanks for all the advice, guys.

Since I can't get what I have invested in it back, that I probably couldn't find another 500 as clean as this one, that I couldn't afford to replace it any time soon, and I can't live without a toy for those rare ocasions that I can ride, I decided to just keep her for life.

My CR500 isn't going anywhere either. I still keep it to settle arguements. If you aren't going hungry, I would say you made the right decision.

Long time no see, mang! Yeah, I'd love to see some pics of your 500's. At least when we can't ride'um, we can look at them as works of art. LOL

I love the feeling of massive amounts of acceleration, combined with crazy uncontrollable wheelies, and roost shooting from my rear tire like a cannon.
