So I finally got the (3) EVS RC Evolution braces that have been back ordered FOREVER. 2 for my boys and 1 for me. There is nothing "cheap" about the brace in my opinion. And for the record, I am not an orthopedic doctor, but I am a know it all of sorts I for one prefer the fit over the Leatt, and the pressure deflection I think is a better design then the Leatt. Price is hard to beat as well. EVS claims you can wear your existing chest protector with it, but that is a straight up lie, unless you are going to do some serious cutting and modifying it is not going to work, I am going to explore my options this evening with a dremmel. All in all, I think anyone in the market for a neck brace should explore the EVS option. I see nothing about the Leatt that would make it protect better or worse. I do find that Leatt owners will sure tell you how much better their brace is but I cant find one willing to put both on and run at a wall head first to prove it. The chest protector is a big thing for me, I have taken some good falls and I know my ribs were spared by having that plastic shell around them. I think the EVS is fairly comfortable, its most comfortable when in the attack position. If you got any other questions about it, let me know. It does come with straps that go around your chest and it comes with some things to attach it to a chest protector, and a cheap little bag to store it. The way it sits on your body though seems to me that it will serve its function just fine and keep your head where it should be. Aside from what their made of, I dont see the need to spend 500 bucks or even 700 for the alpinestars. I am sure lots can argue the merit of eitherone, but frankly unless you are a doctor with charts and data, you are just sharing opinions as I am sharing mine so please dont turn this into how much better your Leatt is. But if you are willing to run at a wall and let me film it we can talk

1) Thank goodness they finally shipped.... that was a long time coming. 2) Do you have any pictures you can share -- both wearing and not wearing. 3) I'm glad you like it. I've been waiting to order mine until I could read more reviews. Have you ridden with it yet? If so, do you have anything additional to add? Thanks for posting what you have. I appreciate it.

My boys rode with theirs last night, I got the large and its just a bit to tight on my boobies so I am sending it back to get the xtra large. I will try and take some pics this weekend, I left my digi in my friends truck at the track last weekend, need to get it back. Other info I guess would be that its basically a race collar that sits inside a formed support. The shoulder things that you see in the adds is apparently to address complaints that the Leatt breaks collar bones, so the Evolution desigs is to send impact pressure to the shoulders to deflect it away from the collar bones. I guess we will know more as people start to wear them and crash with them. Alpinestars also claims to have identified what breaks the collar bones in the leatt and claims to have addressed that in their design. One draw back about the EVS is the helmet must come off and the device has to be slipped over the head, so if the crash is bad enough you getting your head moved.

Hey man, do you use some special controller when playing COD4 or are you just bad ***? My kid averages around 250 points per round on line and he says you just kick his *** when he plays with you. I still suck compared to you , but I love those nights when I get on a server full of noobs, then I can really rack up the points!!

Hahaha. Yeah, that was some pretty cool stuff he was doing. Hmm...the only one I can think of is MX vs. ATV. I mainly play Rock Band..I don't even play COD4 that often anymore. I'm looking for a new game too. :/

Good post Noob. When the Leatt came out all of a sudden I saw a lot of posts on many of the forums about this crash and that crash that someone had and thank god they had their Leatt brace otherwise they surely would have been paralyzed. It is a bunch of hogwash. These folks probably had similar crashes in the past and survived just fine. These things are good, probably great in the extremely rare instance that you need them but when most people talk it is just an attempt to rationalize spending money that they probably didn't have. Here is the scoop folks. I am a RN in a Level one trauma unit and if these things happened often, I would have seen at least one by now. I have talked with the other RNs in both the the trauma unit and the Neuro ICU regarding the propensity for these types of injuries. in the past 10 or so years I don't need the fingers on one hand to count the neck injuries from motocross or dirtbike riding. the vast majority of motorcycle neuro injuries are from the harley riding fools who ride without helmets. Even then, it is most likely to be a head injury - not a neck injury. I also spoke with the Physicians and pretty much all agree that it is VERY difficult to damage your spine. The head can twist and turn to all kinds of weird and nasty angles without damaging the spine. What Leatt and EVS are selling is not protection for your neck but it is fear. Yep folks, they are selling fear. Since my son is now racing and that puts him in a higher likely-hood of any type of injury I will be buying the EVS or the new $200 Leatte but I will not spend 500 to 700 for this. I will only spend so much on my fear. I am glad someone finally came out with a reasonable alternative to the Leatt. I will also be getting one for my daughter but that is only because Chapparal sells the small one in Pink.

I do not have pics yet, we rode all weekend, I do have a crash of me going through a double double double section though, I will post it up when I get home, work blocks youtube. I do stand corrected though, the EVS is not solid in front and can be removed with the helmet on, I noticed that this weekend when putting my kids on him. His shift chest protector also just slid right over the EVS but it was a tight fit and he didnt like it. Now they are bugging me for those under jersey protectors, keep trying to tell them they offer no protection in a fall, just roost. I also found the x large EVS wont be out till end of the month. So if you are over 200 pounds you gonna have to wait. I actually tend to agree with you mephistopheles. I am sure it has saved some, but I really get a kick out of the ones I read where they are in a wheel chair and so thankful that the leatt saved them from death???????????? I think I would rather have just died.

Chances are that if they are in a wheel chair, it probably didn't do anything for them. I think I have to agree with you though. but if I can still use my hands, I'll velcro my legs to the bike and hook up a thumb shifter, who needs the back brake anyway.

some interesting opinions, in regards to having a neckbrace, here is my thoughts on it, Do we wear properly designed mx boots? yes, to protect ourselves in the event of a crash or collision. Do we wear properly designed helmets? yes, to protect ourselves in the event of a crash or collision. Do we wear properly designed neck braces? yes, to protect ourselves in the event of a crash or collision. all of these items are optional to wear if ur riding out in the middle of nowhere, but i bet the major majority wear 2/3 of the above items when they are riding, regardless of ability, why? to reduce the risk of serious injury in the event of a crash. i have seen a leatt brace brake in a crash, i dont know if my friends injury would have been worse with or without the brace, but he got up and finished the race, very sore but he finished. There are others out there that were not as lucky...

Good point you make. I think the bottom line as stated by you is correct, we wear this gear to minmize injury and protect. There is no full proof system, people still break feet and ankles with boots, suffer brain swelling from helmet, etc. Leatt, EVS, or even the Alpinestars gives me comfort that my kids and myself could avoid having to spend life in a wheel chair. I guess all I was trying to convey is the EVS is not some cheap product that a lot of Leatt owners are trying to make it out to be. I will hopefully get some pics this weekend now that I got my camera back.

"I guess all I was trying to convey is the EVS is not some cheap product that a lot of Leatt owners are trying to make it out to be." as far as i am concerned, anybody who is putting $$$ into neck protection is doing a smart thing, regardless of how much it cost or what brand it is, i only chose leatt as my buddy had one and i tried it and thought it was alright, the others werent available at time of purchase. i never ride without it now.
