Default Going to be making some money this summer..

Ok this summer I am going to be working at my dad's body shop for 40$ a day which is great for a 13 yr old imo. I think i will get my lazy butt out of bed to at least make a 1000$ this summer. Right now I am saving up for a helmet, chest protector (goggles and gloves are not needed but I would like to get new ones.) The helmet I am getting is 130$. With some of the extra money I am not sure what to buy for my bike. I would love to take a riding class but one near by is like 250$ for one day and I am not sure if it is worth a good % of my pay...any input would be great. I am open to suggestions of other useful things to buy. I do not need any performance mods because the bike is more than I need as it is

You'll probably want to keep some money set aside for top end parts, tires, chain, sprockets, etc...

If I were you, I would save up more money and buy a more expensive helmet.
You can't put a price tag on your head. I would suggest an Arai or Shoei helmet.

i agree with lane, spend a little more on the helmet, if you want to ride more, you need a brain to do it with and since you cant buy another one, protect the one you got

and i would do a class, i personally havent done one yet, but i know i need to, just find a well trusted local pro(preferably one who wins alot) and find out if and what he teaches in his classes

Well the helmet I planned on getting is a fox helmet for like $150 or so. The only bad thing is that the next best one is $375 or so. Its funny because the helmet I have now is shoei but looks like its from 1984. I think its a streetbike helmet to...

Yeah, but trust us. it's well worth the money. I'd much rather spend $400 on a helmet, than $4,000 in medical bills.

i just trashed my new TLD helmet. i was racing yesterday and some kid rolled a double and as he did it cut across the track and i T-Boned him before i hit the ground. then after all that i got run over by a kx250F. chipped a tooth, bruised my knee(cracked my knee guard), and got a good sized cut on my ribs/arm pit from the KX's footpeg, cracked my helmet, bent my brake rotor, and bent my subframe

TLD Helmets are verry good helmets, if you were wearing something cheap (like a fly helmet) I can assure you, you would be in the hospital right now.

Get one that fits well first off. I don't think price is the indicator that it once was. I don't think anyone can GUARANTEE anything when it comes to head first landings and helmets. Get one that fits, has a recent Snell approval, and WEAR IT.

The impact indicators are a good investment too.

I know they are very good helmets. it was the most comfortable (and best looking) helmet ive owned. I only had it for 2 or 3 months and theres no way i can afford another helmet af that caliber, right now so im pretty pissed about that move that kid pulled. We were running 4th and 5th place in Schoolboy, so i have no idea why he did that since he was pretty fast. it was a total goon move, and he could have seriously injured us both.

A lot of times the big difference in the pricier helmets is a small amount of weight. If your speeds are not all that high it becomes less important. I buy the lightest I can get when I replace due to a couple of neck injuries,,,well about 8 of them. One was due to racing, one play riding and the rest to non motorsport accidents. So you can do just fine I bet with the 150 dollar one. Try it on and dont be afraid to send it back if it doesnt feel snug all around. Do that before you go riding in it.

Thanks Ossa

One thing about getting a $350 helmet now is that if I get one now, as a progress I will probably break it or crack it. Eventually as I start to race and everything and I need a new helmet, I will kick my self for getting a $500 helmet when I was just a beginner as I might not be able to afford one then. Another issue is that I kinda need a chest protector. I would have to work for about a month before I could really ride without my crappy gear. However, I will reconsider ALL of my options Keep the opinions comin!!

Definitely shop the closeouts. I got my helmet that way and just got Daniel a nice O'neal helmet that normally ran $200 for $109. If at all possible, hit a shop in your area and try different helmets on ahead of time to get a feel for how each brand fits. They definitely vary!

Great idea. I'll try that too. It's amazing how much prices drop when something gets a year older.
