Glamis on Thanksgiving... beyond crazy.

We used to ride near Plaster City, on Thanksgiving, we'd park the bikes, load up and drive over to Glamis...just to people watch.

i live not even 30 mins away from glamis sand dunes , i only been there one with my dad to buy his bike from a guy that was out there on the weekends, its pretty crazy, my friends been out there and they tell me it get beyond crazy when it becomes night, if you go watch out for drug dealers, couple of marines got held at gun point out there, and was robbed so be carefull, you will see alkind nice baja trucks and sweet magazine sand rails out there

Got some bad ones. Be careful, very careful.
Find someone there that is in the know and just ask about the accident rate.

Thanksgiving weekend, yep it will be a zoo.

Main,
I went there with the buggy crowd back in the 60's and 70's. It was heaven then, but no place for bikes IMO. I was back in the late 80's. Didn't want to set a wheel on the sand on the weekend. I think it has become a magazine full of ammo for those wishing to end offroading.

I saw more wrecks in an hour than I had the whole year previous. Personally, there's no way I'd ride there during an "on" weekend. Not that I doubt my own abilities, it's the rest of the drunken idiots that frighten me.

That being said, if it's a party atmosphere you're wanting, the Glamis I remember will fill that need very well.

I think it's just a matter of preference, Bomber. If you do go on a busy weekend, just be very careful like Main said.

I'd highly recommend not going during Thanksgiving. As it is, it is crowded everywhere here on the big holiday weekends. But Glamis is the worst I've seen, and that was over 15 years ago. Multiple life flights is not uncommon on one of those weekends. And being one of just a few on a bike, most others on quads or buggies, you are at a big disadvantage should you get in an accident.
And Stryke, you do NOT want to plan on riding in the desert in the summer.
/Mike
