Question garmin gps

hey i dont know how many of you are handy at electrical stuf, but does anybody know how to hook up a 12 volt cigarette lighter to an xr500/600?

i looked at my headlight and its a 6 volt light, so does that mean my bike runs with a 6 volt charging system, or just my head/taillight circuit. could i change it over to a 12 volt system if it was?

the reason im asking is because id like to go on extgended riddes, and i made up a mount for my garmin to clip onto my handlebars. my only concern is that i have no way to charge it while riding.
i know a lot of street bikes have cigarette lighters stock for charging accessories, and i want one for my bike. my stator puts out 130 watts stock accroding to baja designs, and i know i can run good lights, but i dont know how many watts i need to charge an accessory.]

any help would be awesome
