| MotoMcGee, First off welcome to All Things Moto, please make us your on line home and family. As to the fork seals the removal is not that bad, especially with a manual. I hope you got the factory manual rether than a Haynes or Clymer generic manual. The Yamaha factory manuals are worht the effort and price. It will pay for itself. Just follow the instructions in the front suspension section. Most of the "Special" tools are easliy made or adapted from everyday tools. As a mater of fact visit the Motoman393 forums for a link to Garrett Berg's (Motoman393)web site for detailed step by step instructions on making a fork seal driver tool. If you read through the manual and Garrett's instructions you should be able to do the job easily. The mos important advice I can offer is to clean the bike thoroughly before you start the work. Then keep your work area clean as you go. Use good, safe parts cleaner to thoroughly clean off the lubricants and accumulate crud as you go. Anything left will be an abrasive when you ride the scoot. Good luck and don't hestiate to P.M. one of us if you get stuck. Let everyone here know how the job turns out. Bill Barnard |

| I never had to use any special tools. What I use for a seal driver is a half piece of PVC pipe that fits perfectly into the fork seal housing. It's bigger on the top than the bottom so you can hammer it with a rubber mallett. Works perfectly. Buying a used bike I would get the whole dust seal, fork seal and bushing kit from pivot works. [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] I would recommend you only take one apart at a time in case you run into a problem you can always see what the other one looks like. Make sure you take a good look at how the bushings are placed. You will have to take a really wide washer???? off and the two bushings. Make sure you put the right amount of new fluid in. Good luck man. |
