Default First Impressions of a ..

....THUMPER! (this is IMO so no bashing )

Well like I said I was going to have a go of my mates 4 stroke and today we swapped bikes.

Its a XR600R, and I got to say I am very pleased. In the beginning it was a bit of a nightmare to kick but as soon as I got used to the decompression lever it was great! BTW, we rode trails, not track)

I found I didn`t have to change gears all the time like a smoker, I could put it in a gear and keep it in that gear for ages - it still pulled!

What I weren`t fond of is that if you were in too high of a gear and you ripped the throttle it bogged, bad. It could be his bike though.

It is one quick bike!

I will tell you my conclusion next time! J/K

Awesome.
Those thumpers take a bit to get used.

Wait until you ride a 450. PLenty of power there.

true...an XR is not really a "modern" thumper. Ride a new 450 of any color (or 250F for that matter) and then you will really be grinning!

Yeah mang, you are damn right lol I instantly felt the ride difference, i know mine rode a bit taller but you could definatly feel the weight diff.

But I`d be more than happy to swap again

Had a blast of my mates 01 RM250 aswell and that felt even more of a rocket again. Dang! this thing was so light and snappy. I couldn`t beleive the low end power it had (as I didn`t really open it up) It was a pretty trick too.

Wanting a the CR250 even more now!

LOL...Sorry Satch, I know a few Desert racers that would not quite agree with you.
Go see DustTo Glory, that will give you an idea what I'm talking about.
Kinda like what is below...

We are basically getting into apples and oranges here. I know I feel WAY more comfortable in the trees on an XR than I do on my CRF. All new bikes are modern.

Thats how much it weights stock. I picked up a second flywheel off of ebay for my bike and had it lightened 6oz. I checked how heavy it was before I had it cut down.

Glad to hear you like the feel of the 4 stroke Rich.

Yeah, if you rip the throttle in to high of a gear it does bog, but when it does that just pop the clutch and the power comes right back. lol

Best of luck finding a nice CR250 smoker btw.

Later buddy,
