Default First cast for my b-day

Well I went riding for my b-day and ended up breaking my wrist. It's the carpal nivicula. I was wondering if anyone on here has broke this and if they had to have the surgery.

My doctor has me all phreaked that if it doesnt heal correctly I wont be able to use my wrist again or ride again.

Are you talking about the little kidney shaped bone in where the wrist and thumb connect? The one that is also called the scaphoid?

Jedi and I have both broken it. I just got my last cast off two weeks ago. Listen to what the doc says and take lots of calcium. I only had my cast for three months which is the minimum time to treat this.

Jedi had a harder time of it because his break was worse. Ask him about the surgery bit.

Do you have any questions? Have you seen the specialist yet?

Happy birthday btw.

Yes, listen to Ima. See a specialist. My break was only one part of mangling my hand pretty bad. I was de-gloved. Very nasty. The doc was so worried about infection that he wanted to get the rest of my hand stitched up first. My navicular was busted into 5 pieces and he told me there was little hope of fixing it. He told me it gets very little blood flow but it could fuse back together on it's own. And it did but it is basically dead. My thumb joint is practically frozen but I can still do most things. And I can STILL RIDE!
My Orthopedic Surgeon has 27 years experience but I wish I would have gone straight to a hand specialist. However, it was late Sunday and I waited on him for over 5 hours with most of my tendons and a few bones exposed. My options were limited.
See a specialist if at all possible.

Man, I am sorry to hear that bro, injuries suck. Good luck with it, and let us know what the dr.s say or do.

BTW, Jedi....that sound like it hurt.

Broke the same navicular in my left hand back in July. Spent 10 weeks in a cast. Have been out of the cast about 2 weeks and it still hurts like a b-stard. Doc told my I was lucky; It was a simple non displaced frature, low on the body of the bone that began knitting itself back together right away. He also said it could take months to get rid of the discomfort and rebuild the muscle. Overall, it is a small bone that really can cause grief when fractured.

Good luck with recovery.

ewww 3 months. its been like 4 days and this cast is driven me nuts. Ill have to load up on a calcium supplement, and some hershey milk chocolates.

I see the hand specialist on tuesday so ill find out more then. Hopefully I get lucky and he says "Wow, its healed already." Just wishing.
