Default Dirtbikinkid Has Pretty Bad Get Off

I was looking forward to making a ride report instead I will tell you what happened today. My son had a pretty bad get off in the whoops today. Knocked him out cold for about 5 minutes during which time he also had a seizure. When he came to he was definitely groggy I thought he might have a concussion. He had no idea what was going on or what had happened. He broke his collar bone (left one Bates) that was the first thing that we knew. The guys we were with don't know my riding area very well. We were pretty deep in the desert terrian when it happened. I left him with them and my cell phone and went to get my truck to pick him and the bike up. He was fully awake and seemingly alright when I got back with the truck so I didn't call 911. We loaded all the rest of our gear up and set out for a hospital to get him checked out. I stopped at fire station to ask directions to the hospital and they asked why so I told him. They decided to check him out right there. They didn't like the fact that he was out for a few minutes so they called the mercy air helicopter and flew him to the nearest trauma hospital. Then they had to make us feel like crap by saying we should have called from the riding area we were at. It was 1.5 hours drive time for us (his mom and I) he made it in 16 minutes. Anyway after all the exrays and ct scans he is ok. He is spending the night in the hospital for precautionary measures as they saw a slight bit of fluid in his abdomen. They want to make sure he isn't having internal bleeding. The doctor said he didn't think it was anything but just to be safe. So there you have it my ride report for today.

DBD...thanks for calling us about this earlier. Tell Jack to hang in there and that we are thinking of him.

Losing consciousness and the seisure are worrysome. I am glad to hear he had CTs and they were negative. Hopefully he goes home tomorrow as planned.

Sorry again to hear it. Please call us if you need ANYTHING.

Awww poor Jack. I am so sorry Dane. It is great to hear that he is okay but it just must have been awful for you to come upon him as he was down. A scary moment as a parent for sure.

Tell Jack that it is a lousy way to get out of school and next time he needs to come up with something better. jk of course but tell him he is in our thoughts and we wish him well.

Sorry Dane but we are uable to ride with you anymore due to the fact that you have some bad karma with the collarbone gods. hehe Just kidding of course. At least you have plenty of experience with what to do with a wounded wing.

Yes I do and once Wounded Wing Jr is recovered and flying high again I have a really cool sling that is going into the motorcycling box and will be with us at all times.
I was afraid someone here would notice that I am a curse for all those who ride with me. The good news is you get really good care when you break your collar bone with me. The best ice good chairs and the best custom slings in the business and you don't have to load up when we leave.

Hey Bates why couldn't you get a ride in a Helicopter. You just don't know the right way to break a collar bone.

I will keep you all posted as the day wears on. I am going to go get ready for work until Debbie calls me to come get them.

THANK YOU FOR THE THOUGHTS AND PRAYERS.

Dane

Actually YardPro Dude it was a great day I was with my son doing what we love most. It just didn't end the way we like them to end. However he will be ok all the gear did its job and we will ride another day. Me sooner than him All I need now is a new (temporary) ridding buddy. He should be 100% ready to show off by SLC in April! We teased him and said after he was knock out that he woke a 4.0 student.

Man, your bringing bad luck to those that ride with you:

Just warn your new riding buddies the curse you carry with you.

Glad to hear he's ok and don't be shocked when you see that bill for the helicopter ride. When my friend was seriously injured with head trama injury from a cased jump on a track and was life flighted to Children's Mercy hospital in KC, the bill for the ride was like $5,000. :

sorry to hear that!

When i was at the mx track a few weeks ago, a fellow had a get off and was unconsious for only a few minutes. he came to and was fine, but they called in the heli to fly him to the hospital anyway.

I think the heli for your son was a bit overkill... but mabye it had something to do with him having a seizure? I had a friend who would have a seizure every time he had any kind of accdient... one day he fell out of a tree... had a seizure... next time he was skateboarding... fell... had a seizure... then one day he tried to jump over a chair and ended up faceplanting... seizure.....

oh well... good to see he is doing okay! a poor young fellow broke his collarbone at the track on saturday, he was in intense pain for the first minute or two, then suddenly felt better...

You can never be to careful with your childs life. It doesnt matter how much it cost, you dont worry about medical bills when your child could be seriously injured. When your child is in pain and you dont know exactly what injuries they might have a 15min flight is the right thing to do over a 1.5 hr drive.
