Default Dirtbike graphics question

If I buy a used bike, and it has some of the usual scratches on it, would it be a bad idea to put new graphics on it? or should I get some fresh plastics first?

As long as the plastic is still in decent shape it's amazing what fresh graphics will do.

Thanks

Agreed. If the plastic is gouged deeply I'd take a razor knife and cut down the "ridges" on the deep grooves, then throw some graphics on.

I'd consider replacing the shrouds before I put on new graphics because they are relatively cheap compared to the cost of graphics, especially if you are buying a big expensive kit.

My 05 yz125 had some pretty scratched up plastic, nothing too serious but it was an eyesore. Here's the difference a graphics kit can make.

Actually, some surface scratches are helpful for the plastic to adhere better. A lot of people take fine sandpaper and rough the plastic a little before applying the graphics, so you should be good to go.

Graphics can be a PITA, especially the curved number plate by the exhaust. Make sure and use soapy water or windex when applying.
