Default D-37/Offroad Community Loss

Tragic news out of the Dakar Rally today. Elmer Symons racing in his first Dakar on a bike lost his life during stage 4. Many folks out here know Elmer who raced in the National H&H Series as well as BITD. [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]

Chris Blais who is also competeing in his 3rd Dakar and is a home grown D-37 man was very good friends with Elmer and may have to be the one to tell Elmers teammates as they get to the bivouac. Chris is doing very well again this year running in 4th O/A and I hope this doesn't distract him from his goal to get on the podium in a Dakar Rally.

Godspeed Elmer

Yes - that's very sad news, I still find myself in disbelief. Elmer, by all accounts was a great, all around nice guy. Absolutely outstanding rider.

Godspeed Elmer..............RIP

I read about that earlier but I had no idea he was from your neck of the woods, Dane. Here's a little more from [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]

He was from South Africa but raced and lived here. He was the BITD 250 pro champion for 2006. He will be missed by many here in SoCal.

This hits hard man. I was following Mr. Blais reports at the D-37 site. God's peace and belssings on He and his family.

Have to say this spooks me.
I have pitted all but 2 of the American riders in the past in the Score and the BITD desert series including Elmer. It is very scary.

God speed Elmer and may the good lord bring comfort to Elmer's relatives and friends.
